George and Georgette were afraid that having a baby would harm their marriage. It ENDED their marriage. . .for a very unusual reason, one that they never anticipated. What was it?? |

Ethnicity relevant? Parents' age? Child's age? Immigration issues? Financial issues? How long after they got the child did it end their marriage? At birth? During its childhood? During its teenage years? During its adulthood? |

Did the child end up in them finding something out about each other that they didn't like? Something that one of them had done in the past? In one of them doing something that the other didn't like? Did the child do something that resulted in them splitting up? Might adopting a puppy have had the same effect? |

Wild guess: Did George and Georgette turn out to be brother and sister, making their marriage incestuous? And somehow, having a child caused this information to come to light? |

The something one of them had done in the past, was it: Criminal/illegal? Dishonest? Unfaithful (i.e. cheating on their relationship)? Related to a prior romantic encounter before their relationship? Abortion? Gave a child up for adoption? Was it only one of them that had done something the other one didn't like? or both of them? Was one of them a registered sex offender who wasn't allowed be within a certain distance of children? |

You said: Was it their biological child? possibly Adopted? possibly I interpreted this to mean that genetics, physical resemblance, diseases, & mode of conception were irrelevant. Correct? Did one of them have another child out of wedlock? If yes, did he or she know about it? If yes, did he or she slip up some time and mention baby's big brother or sister? Was the obstetrician, midwife, or babysitter the person that the cheating had been done with? And the truth came out when they encountered their past lover? Did the cheating happen before the baby was conceived? During pregnancy? After birth? |

To be perfectly clear, because I think you missed a couple questions: Is it completely irrelevant where the child came from (both of theirs biologically, one of theirs biologically, adopted, found on the doorstep)? Did the revelation come from buying things for the child? Some specific childcare activity? Interacting with the baby? Talking about the baby? Or babies in general? Is it relevant why they were worried for their marriage in the first place? Was it just the general concern that a child will put a strain on any relationship? |

Ok, but something differed in their child rearing procedures? And it was something that would most likely make the baby unhealthy? And this bothered one of them enough that they divorced the other one because of it? Did they keep the baby out of sunlight(like they used to do, which caused jaundice)? Strongly disapprove of taking the baby out for fresh air? Let it sleep on its stomach (higher risk of SIDS)? Let it sleep in the parents' bed? Refuse to immunize it? |

So the baby was ill in some way: did they get into a dispute while buying medicine? Administering the medicine to the child? Talking about the illness itself? Did they even get into an argument? Did they find they had irreconcilable differences? Did one say something hurtful? Do something unforgivable? Did they simply experience something unpleasant together? |

This is going to sound a little weird, but these things can get weird... Did the baby have normal genital characteristics, and one of the parents (of the same gender as the baby) had something genitally "odd" (maybe one ball, or a deformation)? And the other parent commented how the baby's genitals were "normal", inadvertently revealing that they had seen "normal" opposite-sex genitals before, which means they had cheated? Whew! Wow, I kind of hope I'm way wrong... |

I don't know, I can't think of child-care activities only available post-1990 that could somehow reveal infidelity by a parent. Wait... is a baby monitor relevant? Like an overheard phone call? If not... Is babysitting relevant? Breastfeeding? Baby monitor? Waking up in the middle of the night? |

Is the reason it had to happen after 1990 due to a change in technology? If so, the Internet? Widespread use of computers? Email? Genetic engineering? In vitro fertilization? Is it due to a legal change? Was a law passed that changed something? Was a law repealed? Is it due to a medical discovery? or change in practice? Perhaps the baby's medical condition was unknown before 1990? Or untreatable? Or it was back when childhood vaccinations still contained mercury? Is it due to a cultural change? More widespread acceptance of something? A certain movie, book, tv show, or news story coming out? Election of a certain politician? |
