True story? We=you? Live geese? Guard geese? Wild or domesticated? Two geese? Three? Four? More? A whole flock? Location relevant? Era relevant? How many people are involved -- 2, 3, 4, or more? A family? An organization? Two or more groups? We = H/A/M? Was there NO money available prior to the geese doing whatever they did, or just not enough? Are the geese directly, or indirectly, responsible for obtaining money? Are one or more of the geese eaten at any point? |

Does "have money" relate to some step in the invention of currency itself as we now use it, as opposed to allowing someone to earn money? If so, does it relate to the invention of paper money? to the design found on a particular bill? or coin? |

Is the "we" hummankind in general? Yope. A particular race? No. civilization? Yope. Country? This is closest. Or is the "we" a smaller group, like an extended family? Or smallish group of people? if so, how many people - 1-10? 10-20? 20-50? 50-100? More than 100? No to all. Does "have money" relate to some step in the invention of currency itself as we now use it, as opposed to allowing someone to earn money? This is closer, but still not correct. If so, does it relate to the invention of paper money? to the design found on a particular bill? or coin? No to all. |

So, the size of the "we" group is not from 1-100, but it's not larger than 100 either? Is "we" a real group? Imaginary? Humans? |

No idea here, I'll try not to look it up... Did the geese live in Rome? Is this puzzle set in the era of the Roman Republic? The Empire? Did geese have something to do with the invention of money? Of a certain form of money, such as paper or coins? |

I think it is not the invention of money but the fact that we call it money which is attributed to the geese. There is a legend that the Gaules when they tried to invade the city of Rome in the 4th century BCE approached the town walls at night when everyone was sleeping but stirred up a flock of geese and from the noise the geese made the inhabitants of Rome woke up and managed to defend their town. As geese were the attributes of the goddess Iuno, a temple for Iuno Moneta (Iuno the guardian) was erected later. Still later a mint existed near this temple and it was commonly refered to as Casa Moneta, or simply the Moneta. The term moneta was then later used also for the coins themselves, and from this our word "money" is derived. So, one might conclude, if Iuno was not called Moneta, or if the Roman mint was not at the Moneta temple we would have a different word for money now. It might be worth to note that English is the only among the major European languages that uses a word for money that has the root "moneta". (French "argent", German "Geld", Spanish "dinero", Scots "siller", Russian "dengi", ..) |
