May cost a round sum, but may pay off in many ways, especially for all of us. |

"A round sum" ... does that just mean "a lot of money"? Or is there a more specific meaning than that? |

Galfisk: Some technology to: prevent/diminish global warming? One effect would be less global warming CO2 sequestration? To mitigate the effects of global warming? Is it risky? No Is it not guaranteed to have the intended effect? It is, but there's always a cost/benefit analysis to be done and the result varies depending on who's doing it Or may it have unforeseen effects? No, the effects should be well-known, no fringe technology involved Or have the intended effect but not be worth the expenditure? This. Some are betting on it now, some want to wait-and-see, some are not interested. Fuel technology relevant? Recycling? Neither |

No, "round" hints to two things. One is discovered: The Earth/globe in Global Warming. The other is yet to be found out, and it's not a kind of light bulb. |

Jenburdoo: Are other famous explorers involved? No, no explorers involved. It's more what Columbus did - and didn't do - that gives good hints about countries/people involved in this story otherwise totally unrelated to exploring and past times. Magellan? So, no Anything to do with natural disasters (like, say, an asteroid hit?) No, this is both more mundane and more positive than asteroid hits. |

None of the above, though almost everything Europe was involved in at those times meant "wreckage of numerous cultures". *************** RECAP ***************** Puzzle statement: May cost a round sum, but may pay off in many ways, especially for all of us. "All of us" really means all of us on Earth, (less contribution to) greenhouse effect/global warming is relevant. "Round" in the puzzle statement both hints to the Earth, but also to something more that is spherical the size of a building. This is about some kind of invention, but there's no high-level space research involved... Transportation is somehow relevant. Neither Columbus nor other explorers are involved, but Columbus gives out some more hints. He sailed from one place to find a way to a second, but found a third (which Columbus didn't know). All these three are somehow relevant.

Vehicles relevant? Clothing? Sport? The "round" building: Shaped like a sphere? A real building? Shaped like a circle? A series of smaller building shaped like a circle? Or just a building with round edges? Or has a dome? Is the invention possible to make? Has it already been made? Is it a famous invention? Does the "paying off" mean * Reducing? Like a new form of transport that would reduce people using fumeful cars? * Repairing? Like something that would actually "repair" the damage that has already been done to Earth? * Recycling? Recycling damaging gases for example? *Protecting? Actually trying to protect the Earth? * Preventing? Like enforcing some new law that maybe it's illegal to do something damaging to the environment? *Awareness? Like spreading the word to everybody? Columbus sailed out from the "Old World", so did the Vikings... ***************** SPOILER ********************** 'I came across this very interesting design concept for a vertical greenhouse project. Plantagon is a Swedish company that claims they can grow organic fruit and vegetables in crowded urban centres using a unique conveyor system. “A tomato seed is planted on the ground floor of a rotating spiral and when it arrives at the top (30 days later) it is ready to be picked”' http://4pembertonrealestate.com/?p=36 - It's rather obvious that we can't continue "business as usual" if we want to survive. We need to create corporations built from a deep sense of responsibility for the common good, Hans Hassle CEO of Plantagon International AB continues. For Hans, this means core business that's good for society, as well as democratic and transparent organizations that are able to balance commercial success with idealistic principles. At the Globe Forum in Gdansk, he presented the "companization" Plantagon International AB, an award winning innovation within the area of urban agriculture and sustainability. As a result of this thinking and to secure the knowledge of sustainable decision making, Hans came to a cooperation with one of the oldest democratic system still in function; the Iroquois Confederacy in North America. Together with their administrative center and the people of Onondaga Nation consisting of with the north American Indian people of Onondaga Nations he founded the Swedish company Plantagon International AB working with solutions for how to grow food inside cities and deliver directly to consumers without transportation. http://www.webfinanser.com/nyheter/172188/plantagons-ceo-hans-hassle-says-maximum-profit---no-longer-a-reason-for-a-compan/ Thank you very much for playing! |
