Matteo's profession causes many people to insult him, although they see nothing wrong with his profession or with his being in it. How come?? |

Sounds like my days canvassing and asking people for donations... Does everyone in this profession get insulted? Is it an inherent pert of the profession? Does the profession deal with language and insults? Are the insults part of some kind of role-playing? Are the insulters people with the same/similar job? Do they see their statements as insults? |

Do they insult him directly? Or do they say insulting things about him to others? Do they insult him face to face? Does he enjoy his job? Is it generally considered an unpleasant job? Are the insults personal? Does he insult people as well? Is he a rapper? |

Is the insult linked to boxing terminology? For example, calling him a 'light-weight' or 'feather-weight'? Are they insulting him because they dislike him? Would what they say still be insulting if said to another boxer? to a non-boxer? Does the insult refer to his skill as a boxer? To the possibility of brain damage as a boxer? |

Does this insult relate to recognizing or not recognizing him on the street? For example, a comment about how he looks different in the ring? Does it have to do with an assumed personality type of boxers? For example, people assume he's an angry person? Or that he can't control his temper? Is he being compared to someone else? Could a wrestler be similarly insulted? or a martial arts combatent? Has Matteo any relevant nickname? Do the insulters use any play on words or pun to insult him? Has he a boxing related surname e.g. Ring or Bell? Are the insults designed to hurt him or could it be seen as a bit of friendly joshing that he takes personally or overreacts to ? Would most people be as insulted as Matteo? One other idea, is Matteo's race relevant? Lack of boxing success by white people relevant? In the USA (& perhaps elsewhere as well), a boxer who gets into a fistfight outside the ring is committing a felony: "assault with a deadly weapon" because a boxer's hands count as deadly weapons! So, knowing that Matteo is a boxer, his fellow Americans feel free to insult him because he can't give them a punch in the jaw (or elsewhere). Thanks for sticking with it, everyone & for solving it, Hannah, & you know where my new puzzle is. |
