Apparently many people believed it got heavier at certain times. If like me you love the TV panel game QI then you may have heard this . If you don't like QI then you should because there are tons of potential laterals in each show |

Was it a scrund on their behalf? If so, Active/Passive? Is this a misconception? Based on not understanding the science of it? Gravity relevant at all? |

Superman relevant ;-) ? Would the belief of the people fall under the definition of a scrund? Material relevant? If so, is it man-made? Natural? "certain times" - under different conditions? If so, is it on Earth? Speed relevant? |

Probably active though I'm not sure of the difference Is this a misconception? yesish Based on not understanding the science of it? yesish Gravity relevant at all? Not especially Superman relevant ;-) ? No Would the belief of the people fall under the definition of a scrund? yes Material relevant? yesish If so, is it man-made? the it in the puzzle statement is man-made Natural? No "certain times" - under different conditions? not really If so, is it on Earth? It is and there are more than one of it Speed relevant? No |

Is it something people try to lift? Try to move in any other way? Does it in fact change in any way at certain times? Do people think it is heavier because it is attached to something? Because of surrounding magnetism? Because of something relevant about their own bodies? Because of the way it looks? Thank you for the introduction to QI, by the way, it's hilarious. |

Do they think it's heavier only when they're trying to lift it? Do they think it's heavier only when they're not trying to lift it? Does something go inside it? Do they think something goes inside it? Does something get removed from it? Do they think something gets removed from it? Does it, in fact, feel heavier at some of the times that they lift it than at others? |

Do they think it's heavier only when they're trying to lift it? No they think it's heavier in a certain circumstance but obviously they could only verify this by lifting it Do they think it's heavier only when they're not trying to lift it? See above. You need to find out what the circumstance is Does something go inside it? No Do they think something goes inside it? No Does something get removed from it? Do they think something gets removed from it? No to both Does it, in fact, feel heavier at some of the times that they lift it than at others? No if they lifted it they would realise their mistake |

When they think it's heavier: does it look heavier? Feel heavier? Sound heavier? Is there some other evidence that (incorrectly) suggests that it's heavier? |

When they think it's heavier: does it look heavier? Feel heavier? Sound heavier? No to all the above Is there some other evidence that (incorrectly) suggests that it's heavier? I wouldn't call it evidence but something does create the scrund that it's heavier in a certain circumstance |

Does it weigh more than: 1 kg? 5? 10? 20? 50? 100? Does every "it" weigh the same? Is the weight an important property of "it"? Is is relevant how much heavier they think it becomes? Is it hollow? Inflated? |

Is it hollow but filled with something? Is it round? Is it filled with liquid? Or is it more like a sponge? Do they think the mass of the object changes somehow? Or that gravity affects it differently somehow? Other forces than gravity relevant? Like buoyancy? Acceleration? Gyroscopic effects? Does it have moving parts? Is it a machine? Certain times: of the day? Month? Year? Lunar cycle relevant? Tides? |

Is it hollow but filled with something?Yope hard to define this Is it round? No Is it filled with liquid? No Or is it more like a sponge? Nothing like this Do they think the mass of the object changes somehow? No just the weight. I'd say the people with this scrund wouldn't know what mass was Or that gravity affects it differently somehow? No Other forces than gravity relevant? No Like buoyancy? Acceleration? Gyroscopic effects? Does it have moving parts? No Is it a machine? Yes Certain times: of the day? This Month? Year? Lunar cycle relevant? Tides? No to rest |

Did they think there were people inside the TV? Would they think a computer monitor also got heavier at certain times? Do they have a very limited grasp on: technology? Physics? Electricity? Are they children? Relevant what is shown on the TV? |

Did they think something external to the TV would impart weight to it when it was turned on? Maybe . You need to discover what gave them this scrund they probably didn't think too much about how the weight might be added Did they expect to lift it while it was on? Yesish explore this as this is otrt |

Were they told not to move it when it was on, and they thought this was because it was too heavy? Yes it's that simple Are rabbit ears relevant? Is it relevant what programming was on? A certain channel? ************Spoiler************** According to QI when TVs first came on the market many people thought it weighed more when it was switched on because the operating manual warned them to switch it off before moving it. Well done Gourami. |

Nice! I wonder why they thought that was...maybe because of all the excess electricity inside... And now I'm thinking of the "What's a rerun?" scene from BTTF. |
