43 hours awake. The game had consumed him. He was oblivious to the world around him. He took occasional breaks to relieve himself, or to grab a bite from the vending machine outside, but he was too involved to think of anything else. Empty cans of the energy drinks he guzzled to keep his eyes open lay around his keyboard. Exhaustion had finally caught up. He knew the owner of the cafe didn't tolerate sleepers. It was time to go home. "Just a few hours of shuteye and I can come back", he thought as he walked towards the subway. The outlook of sleeping in the comfort of his own bed was more than a little encouraging. He smiled weakly. He never got home. |

Did he go somewhere else? Is he asleep? Dead? If so. By :accident? By crime? Relevant that he must have been seriously dazed on his way home? Was he mistaken for a zombie and killed? Did he get into the subway train? The correct one? If so, did he get off at the correct stop? |

Was someone else responsible for his death? Was it suicide? Was he alone at the moment of his death? Did he die in the street? In the train station? In a building? In a car? This isn't right, but I'll have to ask: was he about to break a record or win a game, and someone with an interest in keeping him from succeeding killed him? Like a current record holder? |

Did he pee on the third rail? No Was he electrocuted? No Hit by a train? Yes Was more than one other person present? Yes Did anyone try to save him? No Could anyone have saved him? Hypothetically, but at that time it was quite unlikely anyone would realize what was happening quick enough to save him. |

So the goal with his actions was to place himself in front of a train, correct? Or just to place himself on the tracks? Or did he try to get away from something? Or somewhere? And ended up in front of the train? Did he think the train would stop before hitting him? Or hit him but not hurt him? Was he hallucinating? Did he see the train coming before he jumped? Or hear it? Did he think he was dreaming? |

Now, why did he think he was dreaming? |

Did he see something? Hear something? Feel something? Did something remind him of a dream he had had? Did he suffer memory loss or similar, making him think he had transitioned from one place to another instantly as can happen in dreams? |

Did he see: a person? an object? Did he read something relevant? Was what he saw real? Did he think it was not? Did he think what he saw could only exist in a dream? Did he mistake something for something else? Was he scared of what he saw? |

Did he see: a person? More than one actually an object? Did he read something relevant? Was what he saw real? It was. Did he think it was not? That is correct. Did he think what he saw could only exist in a dream? Indeed Did he mistake something for something else? This is true but beware FA Was he scared of what he saw? Scared at first, and then amused when he concluded that he must be dreaming. |

Is the video gaming relevant in any other way other to set the scene, and give a plausible reason that's he'd be awake for so long? Did his tiredness lead him to mis-see the situation? Miss a causal link that a more awake person would have noticed? Did he see something/someone change colour? change shape? Move very quickly? Slowly? appear/disappear out of nowhere? |

OK, for some unknown reason I only remembered to include one of the senses in the questions above. So... Did he mis-hear something? Believe something to have an unusual taste? smell? Did the texture of anything he was holding/touching/standing/sitting on change? |

Did his tiredness lead him to mis-see the situation? Define mis-see Miss a causal link that a more awake person would have noticed? This is very difficult to answer. I'm going to go with Yope, and beware FA Did he see something/someone change colour? change shape? Move very quickly? Slowly? appear/disappear out of nowhere? No to all but very much OTRT! Did he mis-hear something? Believe something to have an unusual taste? smell? Did the texture of anything he was holding/touching/standing/sitting on change? No to all. He saw "something". It's also been established that this involved the people around him. Getting there! |

He saw more than one person...2? 5? 10? 50? more? Were they wearing clothes that ordinary people waiting for a train normally wear? Relevant why he wanted to wake himself up? Did he believe he was having a bad dream? Did he think the people were going to attack him? That something bad was going to happen to him in the dream? He had been playing a video game, right? Did he think the people he saw were characters from his video game? |

Did he believe he was dreaming because what he saw did not belong to the current period/era? No, nice try! He saw more than one person...2? 5? 10? 50? more? I'll clarify this - this occurred at the station, where there were probably 400 people since it was peak hour. About 200 of them are relevant. Good question - this one is going to give you a boost. Were they wearing clothes that ordinary people waiting for a train normally wear? No but you're OTRT! Relevant why he wanted to wake himself up? Just that he was amused that he was dreaming. Because he was so tired, he was certain that it made sense that he must be dreaming considering what he was seeing. Did he believe he was having a bad dream? Not particularly bad, perhaps a little disturbing. Did he think the people were going to attack him? Not really That something bad was going to happen to him in the dream? No He had been playing a video game, right? Yes Did he think the people he saw were characters from his video game? No, the video game is no longer relevant. Excellent questions! |

No Pants Day relevant? ImprovEverywhere or similar groups? (google it if you must) A flash mob? Were the 200 people also subway passengers? WELL DONE Galfisk :-) ********SPOILER******** Unfortunately for Rob, the very moment he entered the station (in his sleep-deprived delirium), the ImprovEverywhere group had decided to freeze in place at the exact same second for five minutes. More than 200 people were in on it! The other passengers looked on amazed, but having fairly rational minds (compared to Rob atleast) they realized it was a huge well-organized hoax. Seeing this strange phenomenon, and already being predisposed to believing that he must be dreaming (considering he was dead tired), he smiled bemusedly and decided to jump in front of a train to "wake" himself up from this "dream". Poor guy! The title is based on one of ImprovEverywhere's other projects. You can find the video of the one in the puzzle and a background of this group here |
