Meth both endangered and saved her life, although she never used it or any drugs. Loosely based on a true story, so early $p0i1ers please e-mail. |

She = H? A? F? More people than her relevant? does any of those people: use meth? Make meth? Is a meth lab invovled? Is law enforcement? By meth you mean the drug metamphetamine, and nothing else, right? Is its addictive properties relevant? The effect of keeping users awake for days on end? Other effects? Was her life saved from the danger you mentioned? Or from some other danger? |

At the time of the puzzle, was she a child? baby? still in utero or being born? Number of other relevant people involved = 1? 2? 3? more? Were any of the other relevant people her parent? her mother? Was her life endangered in more than just the normal way of someone around whom meth is used? or in the normal way of someone born to someone on meth? So am I reading this right: meth endangered her life, but at the same time meth saved her from that same danger it put her in? |

No; to be clear, when I said there were 3 other relevant people, the father is the other. He was present, but doesn't do anything especially relevant for the puzzle. |

***********RECAP "She" is an infant. You've pretty much gotten how crystal meth endangered her life: her parents are users and are running from the law with her, so they are unable to adequately care for her. A man catches up to them and saves the infant daughter. Now all you need to find is how meth factored into saving her life. |

Galfisk (Galfisk) If they had used a different drug, would that drug have saved her life? Possibly, but for the exact situation, meth is most likely. Or would it only work with meth? Did the HAM trick them into thinking he was a meth dealer? No. Or did he have actual meth? At some point, not during the puzzle statement timeline. |

Galfisk (Galfisk) Did he get lucky in his attempt to catch them? Yes, but it's not all luck. The relevant effect of meth: is it a main effect? Or side effect? Thisish. Does it manufest: in all users? Prolonged users? Only during use? I'm thinking you mean a symptom; when I said yesish to the relevancy of its effects, I mostly meant its illegality and the criminalizing of its users. |

Biograd (Biograd) Possibly he knew of secret locations at the border where it is possible to cross illegally without being caught? and so he sent friends to wait at all of them? Close enough. Good detective work, Biograd, Ohlala, Galfisk and everyone! *****************SPOILER The man involved in this story shared it a few months ago on a great NPR show called This American Life. Decades ago, in another life, he helped smuggle meth over the California Baja border. Years later, he felt like doing a good deed and started paying attention to children who went missing. He heard of an infant girl who had been put in her grandparents' custody, but her parents--meth users and sellers--had kidnapped her and probably run to Mexico. The child was sick and needed medical attention. Since the man knew all the ways to get from Cali into Mexico without attracting the cops' attention, he could guess at the route they had taken. He successfully recovered the little girl...he later felt guilty about taking her away from her parents, but that's a different story. So she, the baby, was endangered by meth because her parents were an it, and unable to get her the medical care she needed. She was saved by it because her rescuer had enough experience with the drug to follow her parents and find her! |
