He buys it, puts it on his land, and is happy with it. Until winter, when he has to take a paintbrush to it. What is it? |

Is he unhappy with it when winter comes? Does taking a paintbrush to it make him happy with it again? Does he have to do this again? Every year? More than once a year? Does he change its color? To black? Relevant where on the land he puts it? Relevant what the climate is? Does it snow in the winter? Is that relevant? |

Is the text meant to be seen: from afar? From a road? From the air? From anyone approaching the object? Was the text unnecessary before winter? Or would it not be visible to the intended audience before winter? Is it relevant that the trees lose their leaves? Or that vegetation on the ground dies? Does it serve the same purpose before being painted, as after? Or does it serve an additional purpose after? Or a different one? Does he ever: move it? Remove it? Is there something inside it? |

Fiction (Fiction) Did he add the exact words "no ice skating"? Yes. Or did he just add the words "Ice Skating"? Did the sign have some other prohibition on it, like "no swimming"? And thus become something like "no swimming or ice skating"? Yes! Sorry that dragged (drug?) on for so long; I think all the elements were there, they just needed stitching together. And welcome, Fiction! A solve on your second post...that might be a record! ******************SPOILER Our Hero owns some land with a pond on it, and, for reasons of his own, he doesn't like people messing around in it. He buys a sign that says, "NO swimming, NO fishing, NO wading." This works fine until winter, when people realize that winter sports are not prohibited by the sign. He then has to go out and paint "NO ice skating!" on it. |
