A man was shot and killed, a group of people became richer and more famous, and people around the world were inspired. Why? |

Man = HAM? Shot: with a gun? Was it murder? People inspired: for the better? Worse? By the now-dead guy? The group of people? True story? |

Was it suicide? Execution? Accident? Did the man fire the gun himself? If not, is the shooter relevant? |

Is the method of execution relevant? Or could he just as well have been hanged, fried or poisoned? Moral ramifications of capital punishment relevant? Legal? Religious? |

Is the title related to the man's name (or nickname)? No. The title is only relevant in a vague sense. However, knowing what it means might help you to figure out how exactly to solve this one. |

Sorry posted before i'd finished... Did his last words "Let's do it" inspire a well known company to use the phrase "Just do it" in it's advertising? I'm trying to make this a wiki free guess but I have a rather unfortunate obsession with famous last words as previous puzzles on this forum will attest to. |

Was he Gary Gilmore? Did his last words "Let's do it" inspire a well known company to use the phrase "Just do it" in it's advertising? Yes I figured this puzzle wouldn't last too long. ***********SPOILER************ The man is Gary Gilmore, who was on death row for charges of murder. His last words, spoken before the firing squad, were "Let's do it!" Reading this story in the newspaper inspired advertising exec working for Nike to coin the slogan "Just do it", for one of the most profitable advertising campaigns to date. Reportedly, this slogan has inspired many people to exercise and get healthy, as well as inspiring many advertising agencies with the brilliance of the slogan and campaign. |

And wouldn't you know it? I almost called the man Gary instead of Carl! I knew Gilmore's last words, but didn't know about the Nike connection. <random> "Nike Connection"...that sounds like it would make a good band name. </random> Anyway, nice puzzle! |

Ah yes, I was reffering to the Butterfly Effect. If a butterfly effect can happen that causes a bad thing to spawn such a great level of positive inspiration, then I say, "Send in the Butterflies"! |

Nice puzzle . I was not aware of the fact that Nike were influenced by his last words. Loads of potential puzzles in famous last words. Sorry for early spoil. |
