Is this a true story? Is the "I", actually you? Multiple flags of one country? Flags of various, different countries? Is the American flag relevant? Semaphore flags? An electronic method of highlighting something for one's attention? (For example, some email servers allow one to "flag" an email for just this purpose.) Metaphorical 'red flags' that indicate something to be wrong? Instead of being happy, were you / the person who was happy: sad? disappointed? angry? confused? dead/dying/severely injured? Do the flags indicate that something has happened? Or is about to? Or rather does the flags' presence only show the situation to be different than first believed (and so it was a mistake/misunderstanding that led to the happiness in the first place)? |

Is this flag a normal flag; ie what we normally think of when we think of flags? Signal flags? Flags on a flagpole? Flags flying? Handheld flags? Any national flags involved? Flags of a smaller section of a country (state/province/county/SSR/shire etc)? Flags denoting allegiance to something? To a group? A concept? A military or paramilitary unit? |

Number fo flags relevant? If so, more than: 2? 5? 10? 37? 101? 768? Are they real physical flags? Or flags painted onto a surface? Are you seeing them directly? Or through some sort of viewing device? |

Is this flag a normal flag; ie what we normally think of when we think of flags? Please clarify with a definition. Signal flags? Flags on a flagpole? Flags flying? Handheld flags? Any national flags involved? Flags of a smaller section of a country (state/province/county/SSR/shire etc)? Flags denoting allegiance to something? To a group? A concept? A military or paramilitary unit? No to all. Number fo flags relevant? The exact number isn't important. If so, more than: 2? 5? 10? 37? Between 10 and 37. 101? 768? Are they real physical flags? Yes. Or flags painted onto a surface? No. Are you seeing them directly? Yes. Or through some sort of viewing device? So no. Are they country flags? State flags? Any politics involved? The military? Boy scouts? Are people carrying the flags? Are ships involved? No to all. |

Are they flags with the word "bang", ejected from toy guns? Are the flags silly? Or are they making something else silly? |

Can the flags be flown or waved? Are they made of cloth? Some other natural material? Do they have eyeholes? Are they visible from a distance? Are they corporeal, or perhaps composed of electrons instead? Are they images of flags rather than the flags themselves? Are they outside or inside? Close to the ground or above it? Is anything besides the flags relevant - people? Animals? Plants? Weather? Time of day? |

Can the flags be flown or waved? No. Are they made of cloth? No. Some other natural material? Define "natural." Do they have eyeholes? No. Are they visible from a distance? No. Are they corporeal, or perhaps composed of electrons instead? Most things one can see are composed of electrons, but yes, they are corporeal in the usual sense. Are they images of flags rather than the flags themselves? No. Are they outside or inside? The latter. Close to the ground or above it? Depends on your definition of "close" and not really relevant. Is anything besides the flags relevant - people? Yesish. Animals? Plants? Weather? Time of day? No to rest, but other things are relevant. Are the flags in space? Outer space? No. |

Wild guess: Are these the flags sometimes attached to skewers or toothpicks stuck into food, to make them more visible, and you were unhappy because you were already starting to bite into the food when you saw them? In the likely event this isn't it, are the flags one solid color each? or are there multiple colors on each? Relevant? Did you need to remove the flags? or alter them in some other way? |

Do the flags reflect on a relevant surface? Are the flags on flagpoles? Neither. Could you please recap? I saw something which made me happy. Then I saw the flags, and I was disappointed, because they showed the situation to be different than I had initially believed. I would not have been disappointed had the flags not been there. The flags are somewhat like stickers in nature, are rectangular in shape, and are between a fingernail and a hand in size. There were somewhere between 10 and 37 flags. |

Are any of these relevant: Who put the flags there? What was written on them (provided something was written)? Who wrote them? What kind of book that was? Why did you look into the book? That it was or wasn't your book? |

Hm. By flags, do you mean "tabs" or bookmarks? As when you "flag" something important to come back to it later? |

Just to confirm: The flags were the little plastic tabs that are colorful and slightly sticky on one end? (Similar to a Post-it note.) Was the book fiction? or non-fiction? Was the book handed to you? Or were you observing it in another person's possession? You said that the flags didn't indicate that you had to do anything - did it mean that someone else was going to have to do something? Do we need to discover another relevant person? |

Was the book an agenda? Was the person supposed to do something at a time you didn't want them to? Were they going to do something you didn't want them to? If the book was not an agenda, then did the person find something important you didn't want them to? Are they a relative? A friend? Was the book a library book? Maybe the person flagged a passage in the book about something you disapprove of? Was the book the Bible or another religious book? |

Random thought: Did you previously read the book? Was it flagged at some important chapter? Anna Karenina, when she goes in front of the train? Dante in the 3rd canto in Inferno? Is it this book that is relevant (as a physical object) or a copy could do it? |

Or did you think it was valuable, and realized it wasn't what you thought when you saw the flags? No to all. Random thought: Did you previously read the book? No. Was it flagged at some important chapter? Several of them. Anna Karenina, when she goes in front of the train? No, but the book was Anna Karenina (this would work with other books, though.) Dante in the 3rd canto in Inferno? Is it this book that is relevant (as a physical object) or a copy could do it? Any copy would do. |

Did the "flags" mean that the person was going to only read the important sections of the book? Rather than the whole book? (Sort of like Cliffs Notes/Sparknotes) Was the person going to cheat on the test? Was the person reading the book the same person who flagged it? |

Yeah, Biograd basically has it. *****SPOILER****** I saw a girl reading Anna Karenina on the train. For a split second, I was excited to see someone reading such a challenging book, but then I saw the flags, and realized she was probably only reading it -- and only what she had to -- for a grade. That's why I was disappointed. Thanks for playing, and sorry for the repeated delays. |
