It was stolen, so no one took it. |

Is "it" a tangible object? Was it stolen from someone? Somewhere? Did no one take it because they knew it had been previously stolen? Like no one buying a stolen car from an auto dealership? |

Is "it" a tangible object? Yes. Was it stolen from someone? Somewhere? Yope to this. Did no one take it because they knew it had been previously stolen? Yope. Like no one buying a stolen car from an auto dealership? Not like this. |

Took it: Bought it? Rented it? Accepted it as a gift? Picked it up when it lay around? Stolen: The object of a crime which includes taking away a thing you don't own without the consent of the possessor? Plagiarised? Did somebody offer it? If so: The thief? Someone who knew it was stolen? Were there other similar things? And someone took these things? |

Took it: Bought it? Rented it? Accepted it as a gift? Picked it up when it lay around? This is closest, bt not that close. Stolen: The object of a crime which includes taking away a thing you don't own without the consent of the possessor? This. Plagiarised? Did somebody offer it? If so: The thief? Someone who knew it was stolen? No to all. Were there other similar things? Yes, earlier. And someone took these things? Yes. |

There were similar things earlier: Is there always only one thing of this kind at a time? Only one available for taking? Only one at a certain place? Were there similar things later? |

Might someone take it with them from place to place? Like a wheelchair? Or does it usually stay where it is? |

random thought: Is "it" something that has "this object was stolen from somewhere" on it? Yes! Well done! for example some bank pens have "this pen was stolen from abc bank" wrote on them. Since you've figured out the lateral part, I'm posting the ***SPOILER*** Where my father grew up, there was a small mill serving the farms around the village. Many people would walk past the mill on their way to school or work, and the mill's only bucket was snatched regularly. Marking it with "Mill" or "Belongs to the mill" didn't help. The village was known for its many pranksters and jokesters, and "stealing the bucket form the mill" had evolved into somewhat of a local sport amongst them. But when the latest bucket was marked "Stolen from the mill", it became an instant celebrity and was never stolen again. The villagers, with their great sense of humor, found it funnier not to steal that particular bucket. Thanks for playing! |
