NOTE: Though the puzzle statement is in verse, this is not a versponse. Two years ago, I made a bet, I made it just for fun; Although I wound up winning it, I wish I hadn't won. And at the time, I thought I'd win, 'Twas really just a hunch. As it turns out, I'se right again, But it made me sad a bunch. Although I thought I'd win, no liar, And though I was quite right, Not once was winning my desire, Not even on that night. |

Are 'you' Balin? If not: is this a true story? FYOI? FSEI (From Someone Elses Imgination)? Did winning cause: Death? Injury? Financial loss? Loss of any other sort? A life of misery? Misery for any amount of time? The end of the world? Everlasting tickling? If 'you' are not Balin, are you HAM? |

Are 'you' Balin? Yes If not: is this a true story? Yes FYOI? FSEI (From Someone Elses Imgination)? Hence neither, but I like the second acronym Did winning cause: Death? Injury? Financial loss? Loss of any other sort? A life of misery? No to all of these Misery for any amount of time? Yesish to Yes The end of the world? Not as far as we know it, yet I still feel fine. Everlasting tickling? No =) If 'you' are not Balin, are you HAM? See first answer Side note: If I said "and it didn't cause a piano to be dropped on a cake either" to "Everlasting tickling", would that have meant I got the reference right? |

"I bet you can't", "I bet you won't" Is that what you have said? Was misery bestowed on yours, Or someone else's head? Are objects rel'vant? animals? More people than yourself? If so, are they but one or two, Or 'nough to fill a shelf? Are occupations relevant? Police, chauffeur or nun? And I know this is no versponse, Just thought it would be fun. |

"I bet you can't", "I bet you won't" Is that what you have said? Was misery bestowed on yours, Or someone else's head? Not "can't," nor "won't," was said, you see; The opposite, in fact. And misery was laid on me, On no other did it act. Are objects rel'vant? animals? More people than yourself? If so, are they but one or two, Or 'nough to fill a shelf? No other things or creatures more, Are relevant at all. But people more are needed for This puzzle to be solved. Are occupations relevant? Police, chauffeur or nun? And I know this is no versponse, Just thought it would be fun. No job is needed, though, of course, The others were my age. To respond in verse, I have no choice, For fun, and fill the page. You know, let's have a little fun with this...you can ask in verse if you want to, and if so I will respond as such. Or you can ask normal questions, and again, I will respond in the same manner. Kind of like an "optional versponse". |

"I bet you can"? "I bet you will"? Or even "bet I can"? Is winning in itself so bad Or just the prize you ran? Did someone bet against you Did you win something they gave? Was winning done just recently? Did someone find their grave? Did you bet something bad would happen, And it did come true? If you had never made the bet, Would misery come to you? |

"I bet you can"? "I bet you will"? Or even "bet I can"? Is winning in itself so bad Or just the prize you ran? "I bet you will" is closest here, But not exactly right. It's just the winning that's no cheer; There was no prize that night. Did someone bet against you Did you win something they gave? Was winning done just recently? Did someone find their grave? Nobody bet against me so, The bet was just a spree. Nobody bet on my side though; It was more "for fun", see. And though I won, I won no prize. As for the time I won, A year ago, I do surmise, Was when it became done. And no one died in this event, Though that would have been sad; Now that I think, "I bet I won't" Is right on track. My bad. Did you bet something bad would happen, And it did come true? If you had never made the bet, Would misery come to you? I did bet bad things would come true, But also good, I say. Be careful of your questions, you, Else you get an FA. And if the bet had not been made, The mis'ry would have been There anyway. The bet, I'd say, Highlighted the problem. |

Did you bet you wouldn't do something? Was your bet time limited? "I bet I won't <something> in a year"? More people: 1? 2? 5? 23? Even more? Did another person cause you to lose your bet? |

Did you bet you wouldn't: be something? Have something? Make something? Keep something? Did the people you bet against help you win the bet? Or did they try to make you lose it? Can we consider those 5 as group A, and the other 5 group B, for the purposes of the puzzle? Or do individuals in either group need to be identified? |

Did any of the groups know about the bet? Group A did you bet you wouldn't get one: at all? Before any of them? This Before all of them? Let's declare that a **********SPOILER********** Two years ago, on a winter retreat, I was rooming with 5 other guys from my class. Interestingly, only one of them had a girlfriend at the time, and someone (I forget who) pointed that out. In the ensuing conversation, I said "I bet I'll be the last one of all of you to have a girlfriend." I didn't want to win, but I did, and that made me sad for a while. By the way, Group A is the five guys I bet against. Group B is their (eventual) girlfriends. Nice job, Galfisk, for the nearly solo solve. And special props to Vadron for the VeggieTales reference. |
