Meridel was a faithful and traditional Catholic, but her parish priest thought that she was sexually promiscuous. How come?

Confession relevant? Is her priest HAM? Did the priest develop this belief over the course of: a few seconds? A few minutes? A few hours? A few days? Longer? Is Meridel's choice of clothing relevant? Did the priest mishear something? Misinterpret? Did the priest develop this belief through talking with Meridel? Seeing her? Overhearing something? A conversation? Phone call? Something in church?
