This falls under the stupidity series description, and relates to my current occupation (and I use the word current for good reason). For those of you who don't know, I am an evil greedy banker who has single handedly destroyed the Irish economy.Well I had a little help in truth. This puzzle relates to my time as a young teller. No matter how many times we told him that he didn't need to do it, he persisted. | ||

I assume this is in the days before the Euro. Is this relevant? Are identity badges relevant? Computer passwords or other forms of ID? Is 'he' you? Is he another teller at the bank? Your boss? Did he ever learn? Is he still doing it? Does 'it' relate to counting cash? Notes? Coins? Handling cheques? Foreign currencies? Customers' accounts? | ||

The thing he did - did it cost him time? Money? Did you tell him not to do it because it was unnecessary? It would have unfortunate consequences for him? Is he a customer? Another teller? A security guard? A manager? Someone who works at the bank? | ||

So it's someone paying in to his account? Does he insist on filling something out? Adding something up? Does he do it because he doesn't trust the bank staff? Or just because he is really, really stupid? Does it say 'tear off' on his cheque stub, so he hurtles out of the bank at great speed? | ||

So it's someone paying in to his account? Well it could be paying in , withdrawing or cashing a cheque. The key is that it's an over the counter transaction Does he insist on filling something out? No Adding something up? No Does he do it because he doesn't trust the bank staff? Nothing like this Or just because he is really, really stupid? Oh God yes Does it say 'tear off' on his cheque stub, so he hurtles out of the bank at great speed? Bless me banker for I have sinned it's been 5 weeks since I paid in a cheque. Both your's and Woodworm's suggestions are funnier than the actual solution Is posture relevant? Indeed it is | ||

A nice quick solve Galfisk well done *****************Spoiler*************** Yes back in the day our branch had what were known as bandit screens which were a reinforced glass barrier between the customer and teller which ran from the ceiling right down to the counter. On the counter there was a depression with a sliding drawer where the customer put in their cheque or deposit slip and then the teller retrieved it from the other side. One foolish customer would put his weekly pay cheque in the sliding thing (not sure what they are called) and then lean down and speak into the aforementioned slidey thing and say something like "Can I have that in 10s & 20s". Despite us telling him that we could hear him perfectly well through the glass and the fact that he could hear us while we telling him so, he persisted in doing this for several years. It became a huge source of mirth for the staff and there was a weekly competition to see who could serve him without peeing themselves laughing. It got so funny that I personally avoided serving him at all costs as I thought it might be rude of me to laugh right in his face. One of my more mischievous colleagues used to bend down and talk back to him through the drawer as if this was the most natural thing in the world. Thought that this would be quick but not that quick. Well done to all . Bandit screens - stinking badges geddit? | ||

Haha! Fun puzzle. I remember when ticket counters in train stations had those things. I sometimes complain about society seeming to become ever more fearful and paranoid, but the absence of those things nowadays (the banks here don't have them either) is a positive sign. | ||
