I think this is an idiomuzzle of sorts, but I'm not too savvy on all the specifics of puzzle types. And it's not an idiom, but more of a familiar concept. The goal is to find the correct substitutions for the words in red. The king made the German dog. A rule of thumb for finding the necessary substitutions for this puzzle: x = y, y = z, x does not = z. |

Kevin Bacon relevant? King: Monarch? Ruler? Head? Royalty? Royal family? German: Bavarian? Chocolate cake relevant? Any chocolate relevant? Oktoberfest? Beer? Dog: Hot dog? Pet dog? On the off chance it's "German dog": Daschund? (I'm sure I spelled that wrong...) |

Kevin Bacon relevant? nope, but good thinking King: Monarch? yes! Ruler? Head? Royalty? Royal family? German: Bavarian? Chocolate cake relevant? Any chocolate relevant? Oktoberfest? Beer? Dog: Hot dog? Pet dog? this, but see below On the off chance it's "German dog": Daschund? these two words do go together, but it's not Dacshund. (I'm sure I spelled that wrong...) |

Well there are several German dog breeds, including: Rottweiler Pinscher Schnauzer Certain poodle varieties Keeschond Are any of these the correct one? I have a hard time with these puzzles, I've checked several of them out, still not quite sure how they work... |

Well there are several German dog breeds, including: Rottweiler Pinscher Schnauzer Certain poodle varieties Keeschond Are any of these the correct one? no. Hint: it does not have a German name I have a hard time with these puzzles, I've checked several of them out, still not quite sure how they work... I have not tried to solve them myself. But the idea is to get each red word to the correct word (which will be green) through finding the correct synonym or related word. In this instance, there are intermediate words that lead you to the final correct answer. So..."monarch" is still not the final word. |

I want to say "butterfly effect", but I don't see how we get from "boxer" to "effect"...hmmm. Are we looking for the name of a boxer? Or something related to boxers? To boxing? Boxer = Fight? Punch? Gloves? Shorts? Ring? |

First name? Last name? Of a current boxer? One who no longer fights? And what to call this puzzle...the only thing that comes to mind is "dual-stage idiomuzzle"...how does that sound? Is that too clunky? |

Do we know how many links (or colour changes) we need to pass through? Or is it for you to know, and for us to find out? Is it 7 (as hinted in the title)? Are we going through a rainbow? And is the 'the ---- made the' part of the solution? For butterfly: stroke? chop? madam? nut? For boxer: foreman? cooper? |

Actually, this one's just 3 total colors. I plan to make some with more degrees afterward. =) And is the 'the ---- made the' part of the solution? yes, the whole phrase is the solution. That is, the two unknown words fit together within the context of the phrase. For butterfly: stroke? chop? madam? nut? Butterfly is the correct word. Green is final. For boxer: foreman? cooper? nope! |

It must, therefore, be Rubin Carter? :-) that's the one! ************SPOILER************** The butterfly made the hurricane. The statement is in regard to the butterfly effect principle. king = monarch = butterfly German dog = boxer = hurricane Rubin Carter was a boxer nicknamed "Hurricane". Thanks for playing!
