My birthday/Christmas puzzle:

One day, a man takes his family to the movies. Why is it that even to this day, whenever certain topics are brought up, he reminds his son about it?

true story?
all human?
man=he?
son=part of the family that was taken to the movies?
name of the movie relevant? story in the movie relevant? was the movie an action film? sci fi? musical? was there a song and dance number in the movie? horror? family? animated? was it Shawshank Redemption? (random, I know, but what if I just completely nailed it?)

is it relevant if the people that saw the movie liked it? did they?

one day=on christmas day? around the christmas holiday? on your birthday? someone else's birthday?

when he reminds his son, is it in a joking manner? angry manner? happy manner?

relevant what year he took his family to the movie in the first place?

One Christmas day I went with my family to see the movie Traffic, and we arrived so late we had to sit in the front row. And that movie had lots of subtitles, so we were literally moving our heads back and forth to read them. We joke about it even to this day. Good story, yes? are you related to me and is this the solution?

If it was on Christmas Day, were they Jewish? (Basically everyone from my synagogue goes to the movies on Christmas Day, and recently we started renting out a party room at the theater as well) Chinese food relevant (because the Jews then go out to eat Chinese food)?

And Visconti, I'm surprised the theater was that crowded on Christmas. It's never that crowded when I go. It's basically about 20% full if that, and almost everyone there is Jewish (or Muslim/Hindu/Buddhist, I suppose, but mostly Jewish).

true story? Yes
all human? Yes
man=he? Yes
son=part of the family that was taken to the movies? Yes
name of the movie relevant? It might help set the scene, so Yope story in the movie relevant? was the movie an action film? sci fi? musical? Yes, but may mislead was there a song and dance number in the movie? Several horror? family? And this animated? No, but... was it Shawshank Redemption? (random, I know, but what if I just completely nailed it?) Sadly, this is not the case.

is it relevant if the people that saw the movie liked it? Well, they stayed for the whole thing. And the movie itself is one of the "topics" mentioned. did they? Definitely

one day=on christmas day? around the christmas holiday? Here on your birthday? someone else's birthday?

when he reminds his son, is it in a joking manner? This... angry manner? happy manner? ...and this.

relevant what year he took his family to the movie in the first place? Yes

One Christmas day I went with my family to see the movie Traffic, and we arrived so late we had to sit in the front row. And that movie had lots of subtitles, so we were literally moving our heads back and forth to read them. We joke about it even to this day. Good story, yes? Great story! are you related to me and is this the solution? Sadly, No on both counts. At least, as far as I know - when it comes to relatives, who knows?

Side note: In 8th grade, my class did a family tree project, and two of my classmates discovered they were second cousins or something along those lines - part of their family trees overlapped.

If it was on Christmas Day, were they Jewish? No (Basically everyone from my synagogue goes to the movies on Christmas Day, and recently we started renting out a party room at the theater as well) Chinese food relevant (because the Jews then go out to eat Chinese food)? No, but that sounds like fun - a movie and Chinese food on Christmas.

And Visconti, I'm surprised the theater was that crowded on Christmas. It's never that crowded when I go. It's basically about 20% full if that, and almost everyone there is Jewish (or Muslim/Hindu/Buddhist, I suppose, but mostly Jewish).

did the movie come out in 91? 92? This - it came out in December 1992, but the family saw it in January 1993. 93? 94? 95? 96? 97? 98? 99? What letter does the movie start with? Usually this type of question isn't allowed, but I will say that the first word in the movie is "The."

Are the muppets relevant? Would it work if it were a movie adaptation of A Christmas Carol If it were Barney's Great Adventure (that was the first movie I ever saw)? Bruno (aka "Gay Porno with some bad comedy") ? Some other muppets holiday film? Some other muppets not-holiday film? Some other film with puppets? If you went to a puppet show at the UConn Puppetry Theatre (we have the best puppetry program in the country)?

I've never actually been to a puppet show, it's on the Depot Campus, which is actually separate from the Storrs Campus even though it's considered the same campus. But it's a bus ride away, and the bus doesn't even run on weekends. :-( Now for some questions

first, let me ask, are the father and son you and your dad? If not, can we call the dad Bobby and the son Jimbo? Was it Jimbo's birthday? Bobby's? Anyone else of relevance? Did Bobby take Jimbo as a birthday present?

That throws out my idea. But what a great story that would be: Man and son leave the house on a cold winter day wearing stocking caps. They return several hours later saying that they went to a "movie". But during that same time, reported IRA supporters were stealing $7.4 million.
Witnesses reported that one of the thieves appeared to be only 30 inches tall and carrying a sippy cup. Hehe!

RECAP: On January 3, 1993, my family went to see The Muppet Christmas Carol at a movie theater. While we were there, something happened that to this day causes my dad to remind me about seeing the movie.

HINT: One of the events in the list is close to the relevant one.

NFC: Philadelphia Eagles 36, New Orleans Saints 20?

Failing that: AFC: Buffalo Bills 41, Houston Oilers 38 (OT)?

1993 – Death of Johnny Most, American sports announcer (b. 1923)?

The Comeback? You got it.

**********SPOILER**********

On January 3, 1993, my dad was watching the AFC Wild Card game between the Houston Oilers and the Buffalo Bills when my mom decided that we all were going to see The Muppet Christmas Carol (apparently, I wanted to see it - I wouldn't know, I was only 1 at the time). So we all went. Naturally, the Bills came back from 32 points down in the 3rd quarter to win the game; when my dad came back, the game was nearing the end of overtime. So even to today, he razzes me for making him miss the game, even though, being 1 at the time, I have no memory of it.

Good work, everyone, and nice comeback solve, Kaylee.

Well, I was 7 going on 8 in a few months at the time, and I cared nothing for football at the time (then, as now, I nominally supported the San Francisco 49ers) but I would know nothing of that solution without Wikipedia. You should thank Wikipedia. :-D

*hugs*

That was an incredible comeback to watch, I have to say. Your poor dad ;)
