I recently saw a picture and tried to change it. It didn't work as well as I wanted it to. What I really wanted was to add a horizontal line. Unfortunately, I don't know anybody who could help me do so. |

Was it a picture you saw on the internet? Or on a computer in general? In a book? In a magazine? Hanging on a wall? Was it about the size of a DIN A4 sheet? Or smaller? Did your problem have to do with drawing a really straight line? Or with drawing a line that was truly parallel to the border or the pic? Or with the tools/colors you used? Were you able to start drawing in the first place? Did you have trouble putting the line where you wanted to? Was that very place out of your reach (maybe because the picture was already hanging on a wall but too high for you to reach it)? Were you actually allowed to draw the line? Was it someone else's picture and that person got angry when you changed it? Did you want to change the picture in order to correct something? Would it be wrong/incomplete without the line? Or did you just want to add it because you thought it would look better then? Were you interrupted? Is the composition of the picture relevant? Is its shape? Its colors? The way it was placed wherever it was placed (hanging on a wall lopsidedly or something)? |

Is this picture: A picturesque scenery? Something you saw only for a moment? Something others could see? did see? A hologram? A reflection? A magnification? A visual paradox? Were you able to change picture at all? Can you undo your changes? The reason you want to add a horizontal line: aesthetic? to divide the image? to measure objects? to add a reference? to indicate a horizon? Would a vertical line do? If yes, could you draw it? If not, for the same reason? |

Instead of adding a new route/road on the map, did you want to add one in real life? Perhaps a new road? Or a bridge? Or some other way of getting from point A to point B? Maybe a ferry? |

Instead of adding a new route/road on the map, did you want to add one in real life? yes! Perhaps a new road? Or a bridge? Or some other way of getting from point A to point B? yes Maybe a ferry? or any other kind of boat Good enough for the ********SPOILER******** I work in Northern Virginia, and I found out that one of my good friends at work is going to be in a play in a couple of months. I love the show anyway, so with the added bonus of hanging out with my friend, I told her I would definitely come see it, even though it is in Maryland. I figured I was going to be in for a bit of a drive (I thought it would be further north and west into MD), but imagine my glee when I pulled up the location on Google Maps and found out it was 20 miles basically due east of where we work! When I looked up directions, though, I was immediately disappointed to see that it had me taking a 63 mile journey all the way up to the DC area and down again to get to the place. I did the drag-and-drop method of moving the route to see if there was anything south of work that would be shorter, but alas, it was only a one mile improvement. The problem is, I work approximately five minutes (on foot) away from one of the larger arms of the Chesapeake Bay. The two bridges I found over the Chesapeake to Maryland are about 55 miles apart, and there appears to be nary a one in between (very unhelpful, since my work is essentially halfway between them). My initial thought was that it would be immensely helpful if I knew anyone with a ferry, or any kind of boat. If I could only manage to travel due east from my work about 1.5 miles, I would be on land in Maryland, and I could drive 27 minutes to the place where her play is being held. Instead, I'm going to have to drive an hour and 27 minutes. So, instead of altering the picture/map by dragging the route in a different direction, which didn't help nearly as much as I wanted, I would rather have added a straight line east from my work location to get to the mainland of Maryland. Unfortunately, I don't know anyone with a ferry (or the ability to create a bridge quickly -- though I think the Army Corps of Engineers does construct floating bridges pretty quickly). For anyone who wonders about titles, Silver refers to La Plata, the place in MD I'm attempting to reach -- amusingly enough pronounced lah PLAY-tuh, not lah PLAH-tuh like the river or normal Spanish pronunciation. Screen was simply a reference to the computer screen where this little drama was being carried out. :-) |
