So it was one very specific object then? If it had been called a different name, it wouldn't be around anymore, right? Would it have been: Thrown away? Destroyed? Put away to be forgotten (and possibly being damaged by not being used, like, though corrosion)? Over-used or used in a wrong way (and damaged by the overstrain)? Is the item usually found in a home? In an office? A factory? In some other indoor place? Outdoors? Is it a toy? Due to its name, was it mistaken for something else (that was supposed to live)? |

Was the item used in an unusual way? As if it was something different? Like, a box that's being used as, say, a car, by a little child? Can the item be found in most homes? Is it bigger than a dice? A fist? A book? A microwave? A table? Is it (mostly) made of [LTPF list of materials]? |

Bigger than a table then... Is it also bigger than: A person? A cabinet? A car? A truck? A house? Is it an electronic device? Is the reason why it was about to be destroyed relevant? Didn't it work properly anymore? Was it outdated? Did it consume too much energy? Was it supposed to be "cannibalized"? Did the name the thing was being called suggest that it was something that it really wasn't (like a fridge-freezer combination that's only being referred to as a fridge or a freezer)? Or did the name enhance the object's value in some way? Is nostalgia relevant? Is the item still being used? If not, could it be used if, for example, it was turned on? |

Is it the only purpose of the title to mark the reference to computers? Or there are more links with the Ada programming language? (like this being one computer relevant in the development of the language, etc) Was this a mainframe of old times (ENIAC?) ? Or was it built after 2000? Relevant the manufacturer? IBM? DEC? HP? |

Orno there are more links with the Ada programming language? not the programming language, but Ada Lovelace herself is laterally relevant (like this being one computer relevant in the development of the language, etc) Was this a mainframe of old times (ENIAC?) ? yes, but not ENIAC Or was it built after 2000? so, no Relevant the manufacturer? oh yes! Z-something? Z4? yes Z5? Z6? Was it built by a German manufacturer? yes Maybe Zuse himself? yes British? (Colossus line?) American? Australian? so, no to rest Was it built during the war? yes I won't be online till Wednesday, so here's a recap to help you solve the puzzle: During the war, Konrad Zuse built several computers, one of them being the Z4. If it had had a different name (beware of FA!), it would have been destroyed during WW2. |

Destroyed by the Nazis? by the Americans? by a commercial competitor? Destroyed on purpose? Destroyed because the place where the Z4 was got bombed? Relevant that Zuse moved the Z4 several times to protect it? Would he not have been able to do this if the computer had a different name? Would the Z4 have been in a different place then? and got destroyed? I think IBM tried to buy the Z4 after the war with the intention to stop the development and to get a competitor out of the way? Is this relevant? There is also a story that the Z4 appeared as V4 in some official documents, so that it looked as if it belongs to the V4 project and got protection from the government .. relevant? So, the Nazi government let Zuse continue with his project rather than destroying the computer in order not to leave it to the Americans? |

Destroyed on purpose? Destroyed because the place where the Z4 was got bombed? both would have been possible Relevant that Zuse moved the Z4 several times to protect it? yes Would he not have been able to do this if the computer had a different name? well, it would have been much more difficult Would the Z4 have been in a different place then? probably and got destroyed? probably I think IBM tried to buy the Z4 after the war with the intention to stop the development and to get a competitor out of the way? i don't know... Is this relevant? no There is also a story that the Z4 appeared as V4 in some official documents, so that it looked as if it belongs to the V4 project and got protection from the government .. relevant? YES! This is more or less the answer, although as far as I know there was no such thing as a V4 project, BUT... So, the Nazi government let Zuse continue with his project rather than destroying the computer in order not to leave it to the Americans? |

was it so that it would look like a successor to the V2? YES! ********SPOILER******** The puzzle is about Konrad Zuse's computer Z4 which he built in his home in Berlin during WW2. When the Allies started bombing Berlin, he wanted to move the Z4 in order to prevent it from being destroyed (accidentially or intentionally). But because of the war, it would have been extremely difficult and dangerous to transport such a big machine. To make things easier, he decided to call the Z4 "V4" which made it look like a successor to the V1 and V2, two important German missiles. |

And by the way, Ada Lovelace was a 19th century mathematician and the "first computer prgrammer". Konrad Zuse read about her in a book, and she was his muse and inspiration ever since. |
