"That's pathetic." "This sucks." "What a mess." "What a load of junk." This lead to a successful evening. |

First, I want to be certain: Are the handful of people who are absorbed in this activity, are they all right there in the same space or area? Since you agree to a division of people, I'd next like to ask: (1) Is the second group part of an authoritative hierachy, ranging from the pilot to the trainer to the vomit-cleaners; (2) Does the second group consist of skydivers from a rival team? (3) You wrote: "but they are related to the skydivers in a certain way." Er, are they related to you? Or to Uncle Tony Soprano? I'm mystified. Really liking this one! |

I realize that I misspelled hierarchy, but that is my first guess. I suppose my next q should be about vomit. (Hey, I can ride a horse, but no stratospheres for me.) Galfisk, are you one of the trainers or directors / decision-makers yourself? Should I follow clues about the area (such as, were you on the ground or in the air), or should I ask more about the folks involved? Relationships: Members of a unit who teach skydiving? Members who are taking classes for skydiving? Members of the local undertaker? (I'm sorry. That's a horrible question. But I'll leave it there, in case there's some relation.) It's been great to make your acquaintance. Have a good time! |

Is there a concomitant sky-related object such as a hot-air balloon or a fighter jet escort? (Hey, you never said that we cannot be silly.) Going back to the spoken statements: 1) Were the speakers in agreement? 2) Were the speakers arguing with each other? 3) Were the speakers trying to throw blame onto someone else? 4) Did the evening become successful because 4a) they finally solved a technical problem? 4b) they said to hell with it and went out for beer? Do we need to know precisely where this occurs, such as a park in Stockholm? Or do we need only to know that the people are on the ground? Wait. Are ALL of the speakers on the ground? Are some of them up in the air? I have forgotten almost all of the chemistry I ever learned, so, if the fuel is not involved, in what way is chemistry involved? Oh, and you wrote, "FA - the fuel for the plane is not involved." Forgive me, Galfisk, I don't know what FA stands for. I'm a newbie here. |

Kaylee kitteh, you have been appointed my guide through these puzzling labyrinths. And I know a perfect gift for you, to represent your torch in the darkness, or symbolizing your cloak of wizardry, or something. The rest of you, please forgive our love fest! I want to be clear: The spoken statements, were they all spoken at the same time, that is, in fairly rapid succession in the conversation? Or were they statements spread out over a longer period of time? Is one of the speakers a pilot? Is one of the speakers a trainer? Is one of the speakers a person new to diving? Is one of the speakers you? Is one of the speakers there in case of medical emergencies? Have I overlooked a person who is present in some other capacity? |

No. Or were they statements spread out over a longer period of time? Yes. Is one of the speakers a pilot? Is one of the speakers a trainer? Is one of the speakers a person new to diving? RECAP: About it1, we the skydivers said: "That's pathetic." About it2, that is, not being able to jump because of bad weather, we said "This sucks." About it3, we said "What a mess." About it4, some pilots said "What a load of junk." This all leads to a successful evening. --- It1 is an object consisting of many objects. It3 and it4 are both many objects. It3 is with the skydivers, it4 is with the pilots. It1 will eventually contain it3 and it4. There is fuel involved, but not for any vehicle. |

Could any of the situations leading to the statements exist in just about any setting (that is, settings without any references to skydiving, planes and flying in general)? |

When the comment "what a load of junk" is made, is this said pessimistically (i.e. "that's no use, it's a load of junk"), or optimistically (i.e. "ooh goody - loads of useful stuff in this pile of junk")? |

So is it correct to say that it4 is a pile of junk, but which contains something of use to the group who see the junk pile? Or gives the impression it may contain something of use? Like something out of Scrapheap Challenge? (a UK program where teams of people are challenged to construct transport or devices using only items found in a 'junkyard' they are placed into. Non-uk versions probably called something else). Is something taken from the junk pile which poves of use? and leads to (or contributes to?) the happy conclusion of the tale? |

Not like this (that's my favorite program along with Mythbusters, by the way) Is something taken from the junk pile which poves of use? Everything is taken. and leads to (or contributes to?) the happy conclusion of the tale? Yes. |

So, it3 is some wood, correct? (is it relevant to know specifically what kind of wood? Or what the wooden items were?) And it4 is junk, but mainly or partially wood, correct? And it1 will eventually in this tale contain the stuff from it3 and junk pile (it4) - correct? So is it1 some kind of stove? or furnace? or something into which the wood/junk are put to be burned? IF so, is this simply to heat some of the people involved? Or to heat something else? Or to melt something else? (I'm coming in late to this puzzle, so apologies if in reading through the posts I've missed something which clearly answers some or all of these questions) |

Did the bad weather mean the pilots (and/or parachutists) were available to help construct the bonfire? where otherwise they'd all be in the air? Was the bonfire more than just a source of heat? A centre for a party? or a signal fire? ***SPOILER*** On the evening of last of April, it's tradition in Sweden to build a big bonfire and shoot fireworks. But because of excellent skydiving weather, in the morning that day our bonfire pile consisted of a few planks and a couple of particle boards (really pathetic). However when clouds and a light rain arrived and we couldn't jump anymore (which sucked), we went to work gathering branches and logs from the nearby woods (a real mess), and the flying club next door gathered a pile of wood scrap from refurbishing some roofs, as well as some old worn-out furniture (a load of junk), and generously gave everything to us for our bonfire. The great fire we lit in the evening contributed to its success - with fireworks planned and fired by yours truly. Thanks for sticking with my puzzle for a whole five months - and well done solving it! |
