... and lose your job in one easy step. Daniel was fired because of his attempt to do something good. How come? Daniel is H/A/M. Please have a look at my two other puzzles as well (: |

Do something good to himself? to other people? to colleagues? to his boss? to the humankind? Was his attempt to do something good successful? Did the attempt take place at work? was it job-related? did he use the company's resources? Was it his first attempt? if not: were other attempts successful? Any work for charity or not-for-profit organisations after his regular job relevant? Is Daniel married? does he have children? |

Is Daniel's job relevant? Are both the thing he attempted and his job in the same category area-wise? Would, if successful, the thing Daniel attempted lead to similar results as his job does? So that Daniel assumed that his boss would like it because his company could profit from what he attempted? Or did he think he'd like it due to a personal interest/hobby of his boss? The thing Daniel attempted, is it related to... environmental protection? hunger? (world) peace? immigration? counteracting racism? counteracting violence? counteracting drug abuse? education? protecting/supporting children? supporting the poor? resources? trade? economy? any other area of politics? Does Daniel work... for a company? for an organization? for a political party? for the government? in a factory? Does Daniel's workplace... create products? sell products? offer services? Did he thing that what he attempted would enable his workplace to produce/do things... cheaper? faster? more efficiantly? of a higher quality? Did he think that by what he attempted, his workplace could sell things for a more expensive price? Or that it could gain/save money in a way that's not directly related to creating or selling things (tax-related, for example)? Or that it would get a better image? |

Did he think that what he attempted would lead to better working conditions where he works? Did he do it because he actually believed in it? Or did he mainly do it for personal gain? Like gathering brownie points from his boss? Is a misunderstanding involved? Like Daniel thought his boss was in favor of something (and Daniel did something related to this) when he really wasn't? If so, did he think that because of something his boss... said? did? wrote? Is this relevant? |

HAF Is anything about him her (; relevant? yope Do the children like Daniel? FA Was the work a one-time only thing? same FA, but the thing he did was a one-time only thing Was he doing it for a week? month? year? decade? his whole life? a couple of minutes, and the relevant part didn't take longer than a couple of seconds Is Daniel's age relevant? no Did Daniel continue the work with children after being fired? FA Anyone other than Daniel, the boss, and the children relevant? no Are the children boys? girls? both? assume both I'll do a RECAP because of the FA that has snuck in: Daniel was fired because of a certain action he did. This action was related to supporting/protecting children, but it didn't involve working with them. The action took him some minutes, the most relevant part of it only a couple of seconds. His boss, his father, his best friends and his girlfriend all disapproved of it because they all misunderstood Daniel's intention. |

A recording of Daniel? no to all, but explore, and keep in mind when it happened Did she think he was committing a crime? no If so: murder? theft? arson? something else? Were there other consequences for Daniel? yes, his girlfriend broke up with him Did he go to jail? Did Joanna advise that he should go to jail? no to rest Was Daniel outside when he did the action? no In his home? assume this At a center for child-related things? no A school? no His workplace? unlikely, but possible Did he commit an action typically performed by prospective pedophiles? Offer a child candy? Call for his lost dog (who possibly was really lost)? no to all HINT: The story is from someone else's imagination and probably a bit exaggerated. There's an easy way Joanna, his girlfriend, his father and his friends could have found out what Daniel really meant, and then they would have approved. |

Is what he posted merely the URL to the website? Or does his post include ...a video? ...a picture? ...a text describing what's on the website? ...a text about the purpose of the website? ...a text about the person(s)/organization the website is about? Are school fees relevant? Private schools? Governmental investments into schools? Children from poorer families being less likely to get good education? Children with an immigrant background being less likely to get good education? |

Did the link's text contain a joke? Did it mention race? Racism? Was it a question? A statement? A sentence fragment? this is closest - it's actually only two words A command? no to rest An updated RECAP: Daniel posts a link on facebook. The link itself only contains two words. It redirects to a page about a specific group of children. Those children are poor and possibly don't have enough to eat, not enough clothing etc., but there's one thing about them that's more important. His girlfriend, boss, father and best friends all see the link on facebook. They misunderstand Daniel's actual intention, raising awareness/promoting a cause, because of the wording. |

Is the reason it has to be Facebook because of the "like" feature? That when you share a link Facebook says "Bob Smith likes:"? (Popped to mind since I often find myself looking for the "Dislike" button. I mean, I see my friend Mary just caught her husband with a stripper and kicked him out...which I approve of, but I don't really have anything to say and hitting "Like" to that news just seems WRONG. Need a "Dislike" button.) |

(Clearly I meant I approved of the her kicking him out, not the him being with a stripper in the first place...she amends, neatly illustrating the pitfalls of managing complex social interactions on a social networking site with limited quick response options.) |

"Daniel likes Aids Orphans"? something like that, see below And "Aids Orphans" is the name of a group that helps children orphaned because of parents/caregivers dying? see below Do we need to get the exact link words? see below The cause? see below Daniel likes child somethingorather? yes Is the other word a problem related to children? YES e.g. Daniel Likes Child Poverty? YES, it's time for the ********SPOILER******** Daniel reads an online article about child slavery and thinks that people should know about it. He shares it on facebook by clicking the "like" button. Because the title is "Child Slavery", his facebook post reads "Danny Jones likes Child Slavery". His boss, among several other people, does not click on the link and thinks that Daniel is a cruel monster, which is why she fired him. The puzzle is based on this Cyanide&Happiness comic: http://www.explosm.net/comics/2398/ Thanks for playing, and congratulations to Vesica und Hominid for the solve! (: |
