Romeo and Juliet are found dead in a puddle of water and broken glass. This is not the classic - or is it? I should warn you that this puzzle is inspired by a very silly web comic. |

Okay, so we have a dog on fire, yes? A chimp who set the dog on fire, yes? A HAM who took Romeo and Juliet out of their bowl and dumped the water on the dog on fire, yes? And a second, relevancy to be determined HAM? Any other important people or critters in this puzzle? Is this actually taking place in a bedroom? Your bedroom? Did you say this is based on a joke? Could this happen in real life? Is it likely to happen in real life? IS the source of the open flame relevant? Was it a candle? A fire in a fire place? Matches? A lighter? Is the dog usually in this room? Is the chimp? Do both of them “live” wherever this is taking place? |

I am just skimming through trying to catch up on this one and got to "The chimp set the dog on fire". Can I just say - OMG, I love this puzzle!! hehe (: Okay, so we have a dog on fire, yes? yes A chimp who set the dog on fire, yes? yes A HAM who took Romeo and Juliet out of their bowl and dumped the water on the dog on fire, yes? yes And a second, relevancy to be determined HAM? the second man is basically doing what you are doing: He looks at what has happened and puts the pieces together. That's about all he does. Any other important people or critters in this puzzle? no Is this actually taking place in a bedroom? could be any room, looks like an office Your bedroom? I hope not! Did you say this is based on a joke? on a funny webcomic Could this happen in real life? yes, but see next answer Is it likely to happen in real life? absolutely unlikely! IS the source of the open flame relevant? yes Was it a candle? A fire in a fire place? Matches? this one A lighter? Is the dog usually in this room? Is the chimp? Do both of them “live” wherever this is taking place? irrel to all Great round of questions, we now have all the relevant information except for one tiny piece. Who wants to put everything together? |

Was it a strike anywhere match? Let's call the chimp Bobo, the man Bozo, and the dog Bono. Did Bobo strike the match? Did Bobo intend to start the fire? Did Bobo intend to light Bono on fire? Did Bozo give the match to Bobo? Was Bobo supposed to light something other than Bono on fire? If so, did he succeed? Did Bono catch fire directly from the match? or did the match light a fire on something else which then spread to Bono? Is Bozo the owner/caretaker/zookeeper of either Bobo or Bono? Is Bono a normal domestic dog (e.g. not a wolf or other canid)? Was Bono badly hurt by the fire? Was Bobo or Bozo injured at all in the fire? |

Bozo gave Bobo a match; Bobo struck the match; astonished that this produced fire, Bobo threw the match away; the match landed on Bono, lighting his fur on fire; Bozo dumped Romeo and Juliet out onto Bono to put out the fire. Bobo, overexcited by all the action, jumped up and down and began hurling feces everywhere. |

Bozo the Man gives Bobo the Chimp a match, yes? Because apparently he is an idiot... Bobo lights the match Much to his delight, as fire is pretty and flamey and such... The match comes into contact with Bono... ...who is set alight.... ...and like any sensible dog, presumably starts running around like mad, barking the canine equivilant of "OMG! I'm on FIRE!".... Bozo grabs Romeo and Juliet's fish tank... Scoops them out (or not)... And dumps the water over Bono... ...who, again as a sensible dog, glares at Bozo for dumping water on him, only realize he is no longer on fire. Sadly forgotten in the hubbub, Romeo and Juliet gape in the open air, slowly suffocating to death. The fourth man sees all this, declares the whole pack of Bobos, Bozos, and Bonos insane and decides to go to the pub down the street, figuring he can probably get a free pint out of this story. Anything else? |

Bozo gave Bobo a match; Bobo struck the match; astonished that this produced fire, Bobo threw the match away; the match landed on Bono, lighting his fur on fire; Bozo dumped Romeo and Juliet out onto Bono to put out the fire. exactly! Bobo, overexcited by all the action, jumped up and down and began hurling feces everywhere. you should add a panel to the comic (: Bozo the Man gives Bobo the Chimp a match, yes? yes Because apparently he is an idiot... looks like it Bobo lights the match yep Much to his delight, as fire is pretty and flamey and such... yes The match comes into contact with Bono... yes ...who is set alight.... yes ...and like any sensible dog, presumably starts running around like mad, barking the canine equivilant of "OMG! I'm on FIRE!".... probably Bozo grabs Romeo and Juliet's fish tank... yes Scoops them out (or not)... either that or they just fall out of the tank And dumps the water over Bono... yes ...who, again as a sensible dog, glares at Bozo for dumping water on him, only realize he is no longer on fire. yes Sadly forgotten in the hubbub, Romeo and Juliet gape in the open air, slowly suffocating to death. yes The fourth man sees all this, declares the whole pack of Bobos, Bozos, and Bonos insane and decides to go to the pub down the street, figuring he can probably get a free pint out of this story. probably Anything else? nope Oh, and Bozo was wearing a clown suit... and a bolo tie. but this is a no as you can see in the ********SPOILER******** This puzzle is inspired by an episode of one of my favourite web comics, Nichtlustig. The man on the left says, "Let me guess: While I was away, you gave your ape a match, he set the dog on fire and you extinguished it with the water from the fish tank.", and the man on the right replies, "Almost right - I thought it was your ape." Nichtlustig is also available in English, http://www.notfunny.com, but unfortunately only a handful of those hilarious cartoons have been translated so far. Thanks for playing and thumbs up for Dbw and Vesica for the final solution (: |
