Today, I sesiared for the first time in my life. But I am pretty sure that many of you have sesiared or maybe eben woared. You can work on both words at the same time, but I think it's easier if you decode sesiar first. Please have a look at my two other puzzles as well (: |

A graduation gown (which is usually worn along with a hat with a tassel)? YES! Time for the ********SPOILER******** To sesiar means 'to see students wear academic robes', and to woar means 'to wear academic robes'. Last Saturday, the annual graduation ceremony was held at my university. I saw lots of students in cap and gown and then realized that I had never seen anyone in an academic dress before - at least not in real life. Unlike in the US, students in Germany don't get to wear them for their high school graduation, and so far, my university is the only public university that has revived this tradition (which was abolished after the riots of '68). |

I'm talking about the student movement and protests in Europe in the late 60s which were especially strong in Germany because many former Nazis still held high positions at universities. Ironically enough, the biggest demonstration took place in Bonn, now the first univeristy to re-introduce the traditional ceremony. This is what our campus looked like back then: http://germanhistorydocs.ghi-dc.org/images/30008392-r%20copy1.JPG And this is what it looked like last week: http://www.kritische-ausgabe.de/signale/files/unifest090705.jpg Some further information: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_student_movement |
