I had an edge in the competition because I am an Anglophile, and because I knew about the good Doctor. |

was it a pub quiz?a quiz, but not in a pub a game of Trivial Pursuit? yessish; at any rate, a rather silly game. Britih fiction loosely, and laterally, speaking - but is the good doctor another nationality? No, he is British, specifically English. |

Dr Foster? Yes! ************SPOILER*********** Recently I went to a baby shower. For the benefit of the male members of the forum, this is a chance for ladies to provide the mom-to-be with stuff for the baby, eat fattening food, and play silly games. One of the latter was a quiz to test one's knowledge of nursery rhymes. I got 23 1/2 right out of a possible 24. Because I was the only one who knew this rhy;me: Dr. Foster went to Gloucester All in a shower of rain. He fell in a puddle Up to his middle And never went there again. I was given half credit for my answer to "Where did the wise old owl live?" I said "a tree." The rhyme is: A wise old owl lived in an oak. The more he saw the less he spoke. The less he spoke the more he heard. Why can't we be like that wise old bird? Considering what my first puzzle was about, you would think I would have known that! |
