Whose turn it is (the ellipses) is simple: if the last letter in the question is a consonant, it is White's move. If it's a vowel, then it's Black's. For the benefit of Kaylee and other confuseded kittehz, here's how Balin's rulebreaker works: We already know the rules for the move's rank and the file, and whether black or white moves. The rest of the rules depend on the relative values of the chess pieces, given by: Queen=9, Rook=5, Knight=3, Bishop=3 and Pawn=1. Firstly you count the number of letters in each word of the question. Then you next consider only the words of length 9,5,3 and 1. If the longest of such words is length 9, then the piece moving is a queen. If the longest of such words is length 5, then the piece moving is a rook. If the longest of such words is length 3, then the piece moving is either a knight or bishop (used alternately). If the longest of such words is length 1, then the piece moving is a pawn. If such a word contains the relevant initial of the chosen piece (such as my examples of quadratic and equations in the final solution), then the move is a capture. If such a word is also the longest word in the question, then the move is check +. If all of the words in the question are of length 9,5,3 or 1, then the move is checkmate #. Finally if none of the words are of length 9,5,3 or 1 then the piece moving is a king, and no captures, checks or checkmate could occur. A really good rulebreaker. | ||
