Simon killed his wife Ellie. Dozens of people were present, and many of them saw Ellie die, yet nobody immediately suspected Simon. How? Simon = H-A-M Ellie = H-A-F |

Did no-one immediately suspect Simon because they immediately suspected someone else? or they assumed it was an accidental/natural death? or a suicide? Am I right to think people eventually suspected Simon? Is the length of time between Ellie's death and people suspecting Simon relevant/significant to the puzzle? seconds? mins? hrs? days? mths? years? decades? The puzzle statement suggests that a proportion of the people who were present at the scene did not see Ellie die - although many did? Was this because of their position? line of sight? Were some of them blind? Was a fall involved? |

Am I right to think people eventually suspected Simon? The police eventually figured it out Is the length of time between Ellie's death and people suspecting Simon relevant/significant to the puzzle? seconds? mins? hrs? days? Assume it took the police about a week. Again, not really relevant mths? years? decades? The puzzle statement suggests that a proportion of the people who were present at the scene did not see Ellie die - although many did? Was this because of their position? Just this; specific reason is irrel line of sight? Were some of them blind? Was a fall involved? No |

Despite not suspecting Simon, did the onlookers who saw Ellie die know exactly how she died? e.g. there was an obvious trauma such as a gunshot or a stabbing. Or did she just collapse and die? Is Simon's profession relevant? Ellie's? Same questions for their age. Did Simon plan the murder? (was it murder?) Did they have any children? relevant? Was a third party involved? |

Does she, for example, have a wheat allergy, and he threw some flour at her or had her in a position where she could breathe it (I forget what precisely it's called, but apparently some people are so sensitive to bread products they can't even walk into a bakery for fear of flour dust or something in the air O_O...) Or did she inhale whatever she's allergic to, more simply? |

Were the peanut shells/skins standard materials in the artificial log? as opposed to being added by Simon. is that it? Yep! **********SPOILER********** Some artificial fire logs are made with peanut shells and skins. This can pose a hazard to people with severe peanut allergies, as the peanut vapor becomes airborne when burned and can activate the allergy. Ellie had one of these allergies, and her wicked husband Simon took advantage of this fact to kill her off in the middle of a house party with many people present, simply by purchasing an artificial log containing peanut materials and burning it while she was in the room. Nice work everyone, especially Andy for working hard on it. New puzzle up when I can think of one. |
