Hi there puzzlers . As often is the case when I'm suffering from puzzlers block I tend to come up with a quick neo to get my creative juices flowing so here goes: My wife was most amused at my method of falswuhing .I'm sure you all falswuh from time to time but what does it mean, and for bonus points can you guess my rather strange method. |

Is 1955 relevant? Reminiscing? Could one falswuh in 1955? If so, Could one do so more easily then? Less easily? Is falswuhing a positive thing -- something you want to do? Do you choose when to falswuh, or does it happen by chance? |

No Touch? Yes Mobility? Yes Andy Hornby anything to do with cooking? No although I do employ some pretty strange cooking methods from time to time Is it something that most people have a unique method for? I would say no was your method particularly unusual? My wife thought so. I'll be interested to hear how you do it had she never seen you do this before? I'd be surprised if she hadn't but this was the first time she commented on it |

did you realise your technique was unusual? amusing? Were you surprised it had taken her so long to comment on it, given you said that it was unlikely that it was the first time she'd seen you do it? You said you'd be more likely to do this whilst alone, but obviously you're comfortable with doing this in the presence of your wife - is this a bad habit of some kind? blowing your nose? would it be embarrassing to do in front of strangers? how about rude? |

Do you need an item in order to falswuh? well an object yes Is cleaning something relevant? No Does falswuhing usually take seconds? About a second I would say minutes? hours? Do you falswuh on a daily basis? No about once a week? once a month? less often? There's no fixed pattern of how often you do this. I'd say maybe once or twice a month but that's very subjective |

did you realise your technique was unusual? I have never really thought about it but I guess it's fair to say it's pretty strange amusing? It might be seen as amusing but it's more funny peculiar Were you surprised it had taken her so long to comment on it, given you said that it was unlikely that it was the first time she'd seen you do it? As above it's something I do without thinking about it and I'd never really thought about how strange it might look You said you'd be more likely to do this whilst alone, but obviously you're comfortable with doing this in the presence of your wife - is this a bad habit of some kind? Yope blowing your nose? No...You don't have to be on your own but the fact that you'd do it might suggest that you have nobody with you to help you- Slight hint there would it be embarrassing to do in front of strangers? It might be now that my wife has made me conscious of it how about rude? I would say more unhygenic but i guess at a stretch you could say it's rude I'm amazed at how difficult it is to answer some of these questions |

Do you pull some sort of face when you make this sound? Well the sound is a by product of doing it so it's not you that actually makes the sound. However I actually do make a face but that's just because of my method Is the sound made intentionally? See above, the sound is just a by product of the action and is made by the object not the person Is it intended to mock? No |

He Scores......... **************Spoiler**************** I'm sure you all have your own method of Flicking A Light Switch Without Using Hands. I've been using my tongue for years to switch on a light if I'm carrying something and was not conscious of it until my wife recently commented upon it. She's a forehead Falswuher. So come on folks what's your preferred method. Thanks to all who played especially Shez for cracking the case wide open and Andy for applying the coup de grace.

I must be very boring - I don't think I've ever done this! I suppose if pressed I think I would try the traditional elbow approach. Maybe someone should conduct a study. which would have to include an analysis by switch type (mine are rocker switches) and a breakdown by height. anyway, why doesn't your wife help out instead of standing there laughing at you? |

I'm reasonably agile, and have no problem reaching stomach height light switches with my feet. I also usually walk barefoot indoors. I use my toes to pick up stuff from the floor on occasion, it works well with clothing. |

I'm definitely firmly ensconced in the elbow/forearm camp here, though I have used my shoulder and probably my nose before (everything here is toggle switches -- American style, if that makes a difference). However, I also have a tendency to use whatever I'm carrying to switch the lights (for example, the corner of the box or the lip of the plate/bowl I'm carrying to the other room). Galfisk, I can understand the toes thing -- I also use toes to pick stuff off the floor -- though I doubt I'm agile enough to reach a light switch without falling, but are your switches placed low on the wall? I can't figure out how you would get your hip up as high as (what I assume to be) normal height for a switch. |
