Two soldiers, overhearing this, came over, & one started screaming at me that I didn't know what I was talking about. I'm afraid that Miss Moral Courage here was so terrified that she wilted promptly & started backtracking. The soldier said. "Don't you Americans know how to stand up for yourselves?" Then the other soldier defended my view & a heated discussion ensued. At the end, I said to the first soldier, "You know, I was really scared when you came over." He said, "But we rarely have disturbances in this part of the city," I said I was scared of him. He said, "Of me? You just made my day!" What I had overlooked, of course, was that an Israeli soldier, like an American one, really can't do anything to people whose opinions he dislikes except argue with them. I'm surprised that this puzzle took so long to solve, & I hope my brand new one (at the bottom of the page, of course) will too! | ||
