I have a bad habit that I sometimes caution other people against. I'm not being intrusive, since the habit is not something anyone engages in for pleasure (like overeating), but is simply a matter of overlooking an easily avoidable danger. But whenever I say to people, "By the way, beware of X-ing," they look at me as if I were nuts to think that anyone would be inclined to X in the first place. What is X-ing?? |

Do the people who you warn do X, but don't realise it? Do some people do it, so you consider it worthwhile to continue to warn people even though most of them will think you're mad? Is your advice 'don't X?' Or more like 'be careful when you are Xing'? Does gender affect how likely a person is to X? Age? Could a baby do it? A person in a wheelchair? A blind person? A deaf person? Do people who X consciously choose to do it? Is it a side effect of doing something else? |

Is X automatically bad? Or is there a risk that it will have negative consequences? Do people choose to X because they don't realise it is bad? Because it is an effort not to? Because it brings them some benefit? Because they think they have to? Could a person reasonably ignore your advice and say 'no, I want to consider Xing despite the danger'? By this: Age? yes Teenagers?yes did you mean that teenagers are more likely to do it? The only ones who do it? Could a person die from Xing? If so, from doing it once? Or only if done repeatedly? Can one X for an extended period of time? Is it a one-off action? Does Xing involve movement? Use of the arms? Legs? Voice? Hands? |

Is it putting something by the sink? In the sink? On the floor? Is the danger that something might get wet? Might get stolen? Is it a hygiene issue? |

A bag? A personal possession? A body part? An item of clothing? Is it to do with not wanting something to touch the floor? Is it putting something in the sink to act as a plug? |

So does Xing mean putting a handbag in the sink of a public bathroom? Or does it involve this but has more to it? Have you done this on occasion then realised that the sink was wet? Or accidentally left it in there when the water was turned on? Do you put it there while looking in the mirror? While doing something else? Is the reason why you wouldn't do it in a house because you wouldn't need to take your bag into the bathroom in the first place? |

Is the danger that the taps will be automatic ones, that turn on when they sense movement, thus soaking your bag? |

Yes!!! ********** SPOILER *************** When I'm in a public restroom, I often put my purse in the sink while I comb my hair, apply my usual tons of makeup, etc. But occasionally, an automatic tap gives me a soaking surprise!! When I'm aware of such a tap, I helpfully tell other users of the restroom, "Don't put your bag in the sink," and they sometimes look at me as if I had said, "Don't stick your head in the toilet bowl." Do check out my new puzzle!! |
