Merida wishes her fiance had a different last name, even though she's planning to keep her own name, and his name is not famous, notorious, or associated with anyone or anything she dislikes. How come? |

Is there a particular last name she wishes he had instead? Or does she just wish it were anything other than what it is? If he had a different last name, would she still keep hers after marriage? Does he have the same last name as her? If this were her boyfriend and they had no plans to marry, would she still wish this? Is his last name also a word? Does her fiance having his last name cause her embarrassment? Material loss? Does it cause misunderstandings? Or will it? Only after they are married? |

Does she worry that people will assume she changed her name when she didn't? Is she keeping her name for feminist reasons and wants people to know that rather than think she is taking the traditional route? |

If he had another name - would she take a compund name consisting of her and her husband's last name? Would she want her husband to take her name? A compound name? |

I had underestimated the lateral skills of a clever Enjay!! Marya McLaren is a very ideological feminist who would sooner cut off her thumb than take her husband's name, Unfortunately she already has it, since she's marrying Tim McLaren (who is unrelated to her). She wants everyone to know how pc she is, so if you get introduced to her she treats you to a speech about how her name has always been McLaren &she would never take her husband's name. She's a great person to be around if you suffer from insomnia --she'll put you right to sleep! I hope my new puzzle won't. Please check it out. |

Suggestion: She could call herself McLaren of that Ilk - has a nice Scottish sound, no? Anyway, McLaren is, I assume, her father's last name, not her mother's, so what is she on about? |
