She is not royalty, so why does she sign her name with a number after it? |

Does she have the same name (not including the number) as her mother? Grandmother? Another ancestor? Daughter? Granddaughter? Another descendant? Does she use Roman numerals to write the number? Arabic? Is the number technically part of her name? |

So, is it like writing her name as, e.g., "Maria the 2nd"? If not royalty, is she a big fan of one royalty figure? Some other popular figure? (A politician? A singer? An actor?) Relevant what her age is? Profession relevant? |

Does she use the number as phonetic equivalent of a part of her name? (of her first name? of her second name?) Would it be fair if we try to guess the number? Is it zero? Is it a one-digit number? Is the point she is going to make that you can sign however you want, as long as your signature is unique and recognizable? Relevant that she is female? |

So, is it like writing her name as, e.g., "Maria the 2nd"? No If not royalty, is she a big fan of one royalty figure? Some other popular figure? (A politician? A singer? An actor?) None of these; not named after anyone in particular. Relevant what her age is? about 50, n.r. Profession relevant? hmm - she could do this no matter what her profession, but quite possibly her profession had some influence on it. But this may only confuse you more. Does she use the number as phonetic equivalent of a part of her name? (of her first name? of her second name?) Not sure what is meant here. Give an example? Offhand, I'd say no. Would it be fair if we try to guess the number? Sure! Is it zero? No Is it a one-digit number? Yes - to save time, it is 2 Is the point she is going to make that you can sign however you want,That's one point, but not the major reason she does this. as long as your signature is unique and recognizable? Does it have to be either? I recently had a prescription held up because the pharmacist had to call the doctor to find out what he had really written! Relevant that she is female? YES Do people have trouble pronouncing her name? Some might, but irr. |

Is marriage relevant? Taking her husband's name? Does she have the same name as her husband (e.g. both are named Pat)? Are autographs relevant? Does she sign it the same way for all purposes? Or does she have one particular purpose she uses the ____2 signature for? |

Is she implying that she is the second of something? Is the pronunciation of the number 2 relevant? Does she write it after her first name? Surname? Does she consider the 2 to be part of her name? If you asked her her name, would she say 2 after it? |

Or does she have one particular purpose she uses the ____2 signature for?AFAIK, for all purposes. Is she implying that she is the second of something? NoIs the pronunciation of the number 2 relevant? Just as if counting off: one, two, etc. Does she write it after her first name? Surname? This Does she consider the 2 to be part of her name? YesIf you asked her her name, would she say 2 after it? Don't know what she would say, but she does write it that way. |

Do her and her husband have the same first name? Did they have the same last name before marriage? Did she take his name after marriage? Is a previous marriage of either of them relevant? Does she refer to herself by her husband's full name, like when people say "Mr and Mrs John Smith"? |

No Does she refer to herself by her husband's full name, like when people say "Mr and Mrs John Smith"? N.r. Puzzle concerns her name. As you can see, this is the same as Nimue's puzzle, only exactly opposite. Care to take it that one step further, or shall I $poyle? |

Does she want to let it be known that she would have changed her name had it been different to start with? So she's saying, "I used to be Miss Smith, but now I'm Mrs Smith2"? |

Is "two" or "too" part of her (family) name? And she just use to shorten it to "2"? No Does she want to let it be known that she would have changed her name had it been different to start with?Don't know about her motive So she's saying, "I used to be Miss Smith, but now I'm Mrs Smith2"? but, in effect, this is what she is saying. Or is it intended to mean her surname squared? Could mean that also. ***************SPOILER************** When forensic genologist Megan Smolenyak married Brian Smolenyak (a 10th cousin), she took his name, which of course is the same as hers. Instead of signing her self Megan Smolenyak-Smolenyak, which does sound sort of ridiculous, she wirtes her name as Megan Smolenyak2, with the 2 written above the line, as in an algebraic equation. (Haven't figured out how to do that in this forum.) Looks neat on a book cover, too! I just finished her "Hey, America, Your Roots Are Showing," which is fascinating. Thanks to Enjay, et al, and to Nimue for suggesting this puzzle by its opposite. |
