Kevin was stopped as he was walking onto the field. The security guard said Kevin could not proceed onto the field because he was naked. Kevin told the security guard that he wasn’t naked, he was in the marching band. NOTE: The solution to this puzzle has nothing to do with musical instruments of any kind.

Was Kevin naked? Was he in a marching band? Did the security guard think that he was in a marching band? Did they think he was naked? Is the security guard HAM? HAF? Can we call him/her Morgan?

Was the security guard saying that Kevin was naked, not at the present time (when the security guard said this), but at some time in the past?

Was the field a sports field, such as American football, or any other sport that features marching bands

Hominid, why can't we just call him/her the Security gaurd? Why confuse things?

Did Kevin play an instrument?

Or was he in an auxiliary unit (flags, drill team, baton, etc?)? I'm picturing the spandex body suits that auxiliary units sometimes wear, happening to match his skin tone - something like this?

How much of Kevin was covered by clothes:
Most of his body (what you would expect to be covered by pants and a long sleeved shirt)?
A moderate amount of his body (approximately shorts and a t-shirt)?
A small amount of his body (e.g. what would be covered by a woman's one piece bathing suit)?
Not very much at all (e.g. a loin cloth or a men's speedo)?

So is it established that Kevin was wearing a transparent suit that gave the impression of being naked, while technically he was dressed up, correct?

And what is left to be answered is why the guard decided to stop him on this occasion, although his "uniform" is the same from previous matches?

If the above is correct, are there any religious implications relevant? Young children attending the match?

Was there some mistake in how the uniforms got washed? Were they made of a delicate fabric and the cleaners messed up... stripping the fabric of much of its density?

But they were marching for some critical game and didn't want to miss it?

American Football?
International Football aka Soccer?
Relevant?

Is a certain piece or song the band marches to relevant? The name of the school?

Oh wait. Considering that I can't imagine what high school would permit a virtually naked marching band, It dawned on my that a very basic question hasn't been asked.

Is this a true story? FOYI, FSEI?

I guess I hadn't asked it because I had assumed it was fiction. But following up, just in case this distinction is relevant:

You say it was FSEI. Could it have just as easily been FOYI? Or is it in some way relevant that it was FSEI? (An example of what I mean: if the story is something a buddy of yours made up, then it could have just as easily been FOYI, but if it's, say, the plot of a movie, then it's relevant that it's FSEI.)

Is a reference to the uniforms part of the joke? If so, are they part of the back story to the joke? Are they part of the punch line?
They're the result of a joke?

You say it was FSEI. Could it have just as easily been FOYI? knowing me, absolutely Or is it in some way relevant that it was FSEI? not really (An example of what I mean: if the story is something a buddy of yours made up, then it could have just as easily been FOYI, but if it's, say, the plot of a movie, then it's relevant that it's FSEI.) not a plot of a movie

Is a reference to the uniforms part of the joke? yes If so, are they part of the back story to the joke? yope Are they part of the punch line? yope
They're the result of a joke? noish

So, to clarify, is this scenario indeed part of a joke or funny fictional story?

Does the joke reference: nudity? the word nude? the word naked? the cost of uniforms? the cost of materials? ordering the wrong material? needing to see something better? musical instruments? music? marching?

Could the joke have worked for a naked group that isn't a marching band?

Hmm, is the FA that the joke involved a naked marching band? If so, I'm confused.

Ok, sorry, a band that had see-through uniforms. Better? Would the joke have worked for a different group(not the marching band) with see-through uniforms? Would it have worked if the football team had see-through uniforms instead? The cheerleaders?

does the nudity have anything to do with distracting the opposing team? With taking the fans' attention away from the poor performance of the football team?

***** SPOILER *****
This puzzle is based on a joke that is told with the punchline coming first. The joke goes "My school colors were clear." And is followed up by the statement "I'm not naked, I'm in band."
Thanks for all the great questions. This one was tougher than I expected. Thanks to everyone for hanging in there. I'll have a new puzzle out shortly.
