If I can consider myself young by a certain standard, I could save myself about $65. How? |

Young - in actual age? Appearance? Attitude? Young by comparison to something else older? Is your actual age relevant? Is this a situation where there are different prices for something depending on the age of the buyer? Would you save money by paying less for something you would have paid for anyway? By not having to pay for something you would otherwise have had to pay for? |

Would saving $65 mean to pay $65 less? to avoid paying $65? to avoid buying something that costs $65 and that you now have to buy? avoid losing $65? something else? Are the $65 a fee? a price of a (tangible) good? a price of a service or intangible good? a tax? Betting (or gambling) relevant? Knowing that you're rather short, I have to ask - would the item fit you in children's size? It might; I don't know if it will. Hence the "if" and "could" in the puzzle statement. |

I know in the UK children's clothes are much cheaper because there is no VAT on them, is something like this relevant? Is the relevant issue whether you buy an adult or a child's version of the jersey? Is the child's $65 cheaper? |

I have no idea about VAT, but something like that Is the relevant issue whether you buy an adult or a child's version of the jersey? That's most of it; see below Is the child's $65 cheaper? See below Normally, youth jerseys are $35 cheaper than adult. Why $65 this time? |

No Was there a kind of adult jersey that cost $35, and another kind that cost $65 more, and for some reason you would have had to buy the second one? Yes, emphasis on "kind" HINT: The last detail would only work on jerseys. It wouldn't work with, say, normal T-shirts. |

OK...I'm not completely sure I know what a jersey is, it's not a term we use here. Are we talking about a replica of the shirt worn by players in the team? Or a shirt you wear to show you support that team? |

Do any of the relevant names/numbers involved belong to a new player? To a player who no longer plays for the team? To a player who has recently broken/is about to break a record? To a player who has recently met/is about to meet a major benchmark? To an unpopular player? Are any of them retired jerseys? |

Is the player's name that you want NOT available in the adult size? Because he's too new/not well enough known to warrant a mass produced jersey? But instead of personalizing an adult jersey with your own name, could you personalize it with that lesser known player's name? Costing more because it's personalized? |

But instead of personalizing an adult jersey with your own name, could you personalize it with that lesser known player's name? Costing more because it's personalized? Yes to all. ****SPOILER**** If I were to buy another football jersey, it would probably be of Patriots safety/special teamer Nate Ebner. Ebner is a lesser-known player, so if I were to order a jersey, I would have to get it customized with his name and number. However, ESPN's website has jerseys of almost EVERY NFL player, including Ebner, but only in youth sizes. So if I can fit into a youth XL jersey (which might be possible), I could buy a youth jersey for $70 instead of a customized adult jersey for $135. Nice solve, Enjay and Noel. New puzzle as soon as I remember the one I wanted to post. |

Sorry, one more: is the name already available on children's jerseys? As an aside, if you really are considering purchasing a child's jersey: children's XL = adult M children's L = adult S except that the children's sizes are shorter in overall length and have shorter sleeves than the corresponding adult sizes. Usually, anyway. I'm sure there are brands with weird sizing that are exceptions, but in my experience, this has been the case. |
