So, Dr Dave tested Alice for food allergy. Then Bob called a food producer Charlie and got an information about the ingredients of the food that Alice is yesishly allergic to.
This all saved Gerald pain, discomfort, embarassment and financial loss.
There is also a fifth person - Elsa - relevant in a yet unknown way.
Is this correct so far?

Was Alice the first person tested for that allergy? Could the ingredient she is allergic to be replaced with another ingredient?
Is Alice a famous person? Did Gerald work for Alice?
Is Bob's profession connected with food?

Did Gerald give Alice a 'preparation' that was supposed to have certain medicinal properties but was as yet untested, and when it was administered to her she or others thought he had poisoned her, but later found out that it must have been due to some ingredients containing nuts or nut traces, not usually reactive in a non allergic person?

Galfisk (Galfisk)

Did Gerald give Elsa the food (was it food)? Yes. Did Elsa share it with Alice? Give it to Alice? Yes. Did Alice steal it? Ooh, that could work too. Did Alice know she was allergic to nuts? No. Did she know there were nuts in what she ate? No. Was Gerald accused of trying to poison Elsa, since Alice got sick when she ate Elsa's food? Yes. But an allergy test proved it was not poison, but a case of severe nut allergy? Yes! (is there such a thing as mild nut allergy?) I've never encountered one, but it's a big world out there.

I think that wraps everything up nicely.

****************SPOILER
Galfisk hits all the relevent points above, here's how the little drama went down in my head:

Poor Gerald, forever desiring but never able to obtain the affection of the lovely Elsa, decides to send her some exquisite foreign candies at work in hopes of wooing her. Elsa takes one look at the heart-shaped card and tosses the whole mess to her co-worker, Alice. Alice eats a single piece and immediately goes into shock. Someone brings up the idea of an allergy, but Alice never mentioned having one, and anyway there are no allergens listed on the box.

Elsa tells detectives that some creep has been stalking her and trying to send her gifts for years, and she wouldn't put it past him to poison her. Gerald is arrested and faces some very serious charges.

Fortunately, one stranger to him (Alice) gets poked in the arm (allergy test), and it's revealed that she has in fact developed a nut allergy. Another stranger to him (Bob the police detective) makes a long-distance call to the candy manufacturer Charlie, who freely admits that there is hazelnut in the candy recipe. His country simply doesn't require all the ingredients to be listed on the box.

So Alice is fine, Gerald is saved, he's cured of his love for Elsa, and...I don't know, Bob and Charlie become pen-pals.
