The worst advice Leonora ever received had the best effect on her life of any advice she ever received. How come? |

Leonora = H/A/F? Any of the following relevant about her: that she is female? her age? job? relationship status? religion? ethnicity? nationality? physical appearance? hobbies? lifestyle? character traits? Does it have an effect on her professional life? her social life? her relation to her family? her mood? her health? her lifestyle? Did the advice come from someone she knows? If so, a family member? friend? acquaintance? boss? co-worker? Was it given to her orally? in written form? Did the one who gave her the advice mean well? |

is this you? did leonora follow the advice? do the opposite? did her reaction to the advice tell her something about herself? did she reject the advice? ignore it? did it somehow help her discover something? do something new? stop doing something? do something differently? |

Did Leonora try to follow the advice? Did she know when she received it that it was bad? Did she deliberately contradict the advice to prove it bad? Was the advice bad because it would not have the results the adviser thought it would? Because following it would make Leonora unhappy? Harm her? Because it would be too difficult to follow? Because it attempted to solve a problem that Leonora didn't consider to be a problem? Because it was obvious? Because it showed a lack of understanding of the situation? Because there was a relevant fact about Leonora that rendered it bad? Because giving it was rude? Might the adviser offer this advice to anyone? Is there something special about Leonora that made them think she would welcome this advice? Was she advised to do something? Not do something? Do something in a different way? Was the advice related to health? Work? Money? Leisure? Family? Religion? Hobbies? |

Is it relevant that you aren't / Leonora isn't religious? Would the advice have been good for a religious person? Did it involve changing religion? practicing religion? praying? donating to religious organisation? Is a specific religion relevant? Did the person think you had a problem with your situation, but actually you were perfectly happy? Did the person advise that you should pray to find out what you should do? How you should act? Whether you should do a certain thing? Did that suggest that instead of doing something useful to solve the problem, you should just pray? His advice was that I should get religion, which is as presumptuous to tell an atheist as it would have been for me to tell him he should lose his religion. Good one! As a man, I see where he was coming from. We usually connect problem->solution. Problem->sympathy is alien to us, and if that's what you want you'll have to spell it out. I'd like to read the verse in question if you want to post or link it (: If you write limericks, you may be interested in contributing to OEDILF.com . |

Here's the poem (which appeared in Free Inquiry and The Providence Journal). For N. T. The path to joy is faith in God, The young man told his friend. His joy was plain upon his face; He’d no wish to offend. All night they talked, and, on the morn, When day flared bright and hot, He shook her hand and wished her well And set out on his yacht. |
