I told myself I wasn't going to start a new puzzle until after the week-end, when I am going to have to be away. But I couldn't resist, and hope participants will understand if I seem to ignore them for a few days.

Fran just wanted to keep Cindy company, so she wouldn't be alone. But Rita had other ideas.

Bendy straws?
Middle Eastern souks?
Scallywags who would nick their uncle's cash when his back is turned?
Painful backs?
Hurty knees? (Not mentioned in a puzzle but I has one).

Is petty theft relevant here? If so, on the party of Fran, Cindy or Rita?

Petty theft from: Fran? Rita? Someone else? Did Rita want Cindy to be alone? Did she herself want to keep Cindy company? To watch her? To watch whatever she might nick?

On looking this over, it is very close to solved, so I will go ahead and $poyle it.

***********SPOILER*************
Rita owns a small store that is open virtually 16/7. Fran offered to stay in the store on Sunday morning so that Rita could go to church. (Fran would go to a later service.) She offered to do this because she thought that Rita's reluctance was due to leaving the clerk, Cindy, a young woman, in a vulnurable position, alone.

But when Fran showed up to 'store-sit' Rita started instructing her in how to use the cash register. She simply didn't trust Cindy.
