Anna embarrassed Steve by asking him how his recent holiday was, even though Steve had not done anything on that holiday that he wouldn't want Anna to know about. Why? Anna = HAF, Steve = him = his = he = HAM |

Was Steve embarassed that Anna knew about his holiday at the first place? Holiday - time off from work? Family holiday? Country holiday? Religious holiday? |

Did Steve want to keep his time off secret to Anna? Did Steve want Anna to know about his time off but not the fact that he went for holiday? Did Steve tell Anna something that contradicted going on holiday? If yes: that he was ill? about some family duties? Is it relevant how Anna learn about Steve's holiday? Is Anna Steve's boss? |

Ah, I meant: did HE intend that she should hear him? So the thing she said about his recent holiday was unrelated to what he had said before? But she said it in order to get back on him, when he said something negative about her? So he's embarrassed simply because she knows he's been on holiday recently, correct? Do we need to know more about: How she knew? How recent the holiday was? How long it lasted? Did he first speak about his holiday, and then said something negative about her? So then she asked about his holiday, in order to indicate to everyone present that she had overheard everything? |

recap? Certainly Did he not see Anna? He did Did he mistake her for someone else? No Does she have a twin sister? No Or someone else that looks like her? No Did he think she was not listening? Yope Did he make the comment in order to embarrass her? No Recap: Steve was with Anna (his coworker) and a group of other coworkers. Steve was chatting to the coworkers and during the conversation mentioned his recent holiday and also made some negative comments about Anna. At the end of the conversation, Anna pointedly asked how his holiday had been, deliberately embarrassing him because the fact that she knew he had been discussing his holiday meant she was also aware he had insulted her. The last part is, why did Steve originally think he could get away with insulting Anna when he knew she was within earshot? |

Did Anna and Steve speak the same native language? NO Did Steve think that Anna cannot understand what he said? Exactly was Anna involved in a conversation with someone else? No *****SPOILER***** I'm currently living in a foreign country, and one of the most annoying things is the way that some people will happily talk about me in my presence, seemingly unable to believe that living in their country I might perhaps have taken the time to learn their language. In this puzzle, English Anna is working in France. During their lunchbreak, her coworker Steve is involved in a conversation in French about his holiday, and also gets in a few jibes at Anna. When he's finished, Anna asks sweetly and in perfect French "so do tell me, how was your holiday?", leaving Steve embarrassed as he realises she understood everything. Thanks everyone and Redwine for the solve! |
