I recently saw an interview with a comedian in which he gave an amusing and possibly unique explanation of the reason behind the title of his latest show. What was the reason? |

Other? None? This. Hint: the title does not directly mention the giver, and if you didn't know the story behind it, you would not realise the significance of the title. But the giver's actions did lead to the choice of title via a less direct route |

This sounds like a great story... So does the person give the comedian something that relates to the comedian's previous show? To the theme or title of the previous show? Is the kind of stand-up routine relevant? If so, is this comedian a "prop comic"? Stunt comic? Impersonator? Musician? Ventriloquist? Magician? Just tells stories/jokes? Does the person obtain the objects from the venues of past shows that he's attended? Do the objects vary from one to the next? Or are they are mostly similar with minor differences? Are the objects something that proves the person attended this comic's show? Do they prove that this person was in the same place as the comic? Met the comic? Talked to the comic? |

This sounds like a great story... So does the person give the comedian something that relates to the comedian's previous show? To the theme or title of the previous show? This part is getting a bit confusing, so I'll clear it up: on every previous tour, the fan has given the comedian an item relating to the title of that show Is the kind of stand-up routine relevant? No If so, is this comedian a "prop comic"? Stunt comic? Impersonator? Musician? Ventriloquist? Magician? Just tells stories/jokes? Does the person obtain the objects from the venues of past shows that he's attended? No Do the objects vary from one to the next? Yes, see above Or are they are mostly similar with minor differences? No Are the objects something that proves the person attended this comic's show? Do they prove that this person was in the same place as the comic? Met the comic? Talked to the comic? No to all |

Ok, so if one tour was called "Major League," the person may give the comic a baseball? And if the next tour was called "Checkmate," the person may give the comic a chess piece? Yes exactly. In actual fact, the shows took the format "[Name of comedian] and the [amusing object mentioned in show]", and the man gave the object or something related to it. This sort of thing, or are the object more directly related to the comic himself? No |

Was the show's name influenced by this idea of getting something related to the name? Did the comic choose a name that included something unusual, to see if the person would be able to locate the unusual object? YES *****SPOILER***** This comes from an interview with Welsh comedian Rhod Gilbert. He explained that he had a fan who would attend a show on every tour and give him a gift related to the show's title (eg one show was called "Rhod Gilbert and the Award-Winning Mince Pie", and the man gave him a mince pie. This got annoying, so he decided to name his next show "Rhod Gilbert and the Cat that Looked Like Nicholas Lyndhurst", to make it difficult for the man to find the item. Though as shown on the talk show where he told this story, the man did a fairly good job! Thanks all, especially Galfisk for a lot of the work and Ixoye for putting it to rest |
