Hi Hardcore and welcome

Let's start with the basics, Judith = Human? Adult? Female?

Thousands = Humans of either sex? of various ages from children to old people?

Hammer = small handheld tool for banging in nails? something larger like a sledgehammer or a kango? thing thrown by Olympic athletes?

Based on a real event? Mythology? Fiction?

Is it a real hammer? A metaphorical one? Is an idiom relevant (eg "bring the hammer down").

Did dropping the hammer save them from natural disaster? disease? an act of war? mass murder?

Did the falling hammer break something? Set off an alarm? Did Judith drop the hammer accidently? Was she trying to save them ? or did she represent the danger in the first place?

Was it normal for Judith to have a hammer in her possession? is her profession relevant?

Is she making weapons? Airplanes? Other war material? Did the hammer damage a weapon? A vehicle? Did it lodge somewhere relevant? Did something malfunction because of the dropped hammer? Did something need to be repaired? Were the lives of thousands saved: at the same time? Over a period of time? In the same place? In an area? In several different places?
Did she drop her hammer on a bomb, which fell in a place where a lot of people were gathered, but failed to explode? Or the same scenario but a torpedo? Or other weapon of considerable destruction?

Did the hammer trigger some of the explosives in the bomb? All of them? I know that some bombs only work they way they're supposed to if all the explosives go off in a certain time -- did the hammer throw off the timing?

So she saved the lives of the intended bombing targets by accidentally blowing up herself and everyone in the vicinity? Is there more to it? Was there a war? Did the explosion cause the bomb builders to: all die? Stop building bombs? surrender? Lose the war?

So she saved the lives of the intended bombing targets by accidentally blowing up herself and everyone in the vicinity? YES!!! Is there more to it? no Was there a war? Yes Did the explosion cause the bomb builders to: all die? yes Stop building bombs? YES surrender? Lose the war? no to both. But you got it. Time for a spoiler

********SPOILER********

Judith is a construction engineer working for the military. She worked at a factory that made bombs for the army. While she was walking across a catwalk on top of a bomb being finished to get to another bomb, her hammer fell down on to the bomb, making it explode. This made a chain reaction with other bombs and the whole factory blew up, along with special material used to make the bombs. Unable to get another bomb factory, the army called off the attack of another country, which they wanted to bomb. The civilians of that country survived instead.

Thank you for solving. This was my first one.
