He wasn't even seven yet?!
Such weighty responsibility to fall on one so young...
I'm sure his father would be proud of him, though.

Oddly, I feel a kinship with him, though our situations apply in reverse, in a manner of speaking.

Is he H/C/M?
Is the responsibility related to: owning a large property? having a leading role in an organization? keeping alive a tradition/name/family/bloodline? making decisions?
Is he the next Dalai Lama? (just in case)
As his father "would be proud of him": isn't he actually proud of him? or does he not know of it? or is the father dead?

Is the responsibility related to: owning a large property? having a leading role in an organization? sort of, to these two...I'm not sure how much he 'owns' or 'leads' keeping alive a tradition/name/family/bloodline? this most definitely so making decisions? perhaps
Is he the next Dalai Lama? (just in case) lol, no
As his father "would be proud of him": isn't he actually proud of him? or does he not know of it? or is the father dead? he is dead

Is he a king? no, though he is a prince Did he inherit a position from his father? A title? Did he get it because his father died? yes to all Relevant how he died? yes, although the prince would have inherited his father's titles whenever his father died no matter how, unless he had died before his father of course

Is it Prince Charles, I think Duke of Wales? Prince Charles is the *Prince* of Wales, although he is a Duke too (Duke of Rothesay in Scotland, Duke of Cornwall in, well, Cornwall). But he isn't the Duke in question, as Prince Charles is currently 64. Oh, and his father's currently still alive, unlike the Duke in this puzzle. =)

Did he participate in a ceremony? tradition? hmm, depends on what you mean by these

Did his father die recently before the puzzle statement event takes place? DYOD of "take place"; I said the puzzle statement shortly before writing the puzzle. When he "wasn't even seven" however, was seventy years ago (seventy-one this year, but we're not there yet), and that was when his father died.

I assume "he" did at the age of almost seven something which inspired your puzzle statement, correct?

Did the "responsibility" involve him doing something? If so, did he do it just once? Or was it a long-time thing (such as being crowned and assuming the responsibility for a whole kingdom)?

Did the "responsibility" involve him doing something? perhaps - I am unsure about exactly what carrying such titles means for one. However, I am sure he has done many things on behalf of someone else. If so, did he do it just once? no Or was it a long-time thing yes (such as being crowned and assuming the responsibility for a whole kingdom)? something like this, but as we already established, he is a prince and a duke, not a king (nor is it likely that he shall ever be king, though I suppose there's a slim chance)

The Duke of Kent?
That will do admirably for a

***SPOILER***

I was reading one of my favourite websites, http://royalty.nu/news.html for the royal news of the day (or the past few days, as it's not updated every single day). This is how I found out that HRH Prince Edward, the Duke of Kent, had suffered a mild stroke. In the article, the Duke of Kent's age was not only given as seventy-seven, but it was stated that he had held his position for "more than seventy years".

Reading that caused me to go 'wait, back the truck up, what?' so I looked up the good Duke, and found out that he had, in fact, held the position since his father HRH Prince George, the Duke of Kent's untimely demise in a plane crash. This left little Edward, not quite seven, to hold quite a prestigious title (as a royal duke) and look after his widowed mother, younger sister, and baby brother.

I feel a kinship with him, as I, too, was left alone with my mother and sibling at a fairly young age, though for me it was temporary (divorce, not death, and now I see my father a lot - maybe too much.) But of course, I'm not the heir to any titles. I am *named* for his kin - Queen Elizabeth II, and Princess Anne.

And last but not least, I've been told to "take care of my mother" (which is hard, I'll tell you). But I was already grown up when I acquired *that* weighty responsibility, not forced to grow up because of it. So our situations - kind of - apply in reverse.

And of course, the puzzle title was an allusion to Superman - that is, Clark *Kent*. =)
