Because her house had an attached garage, Trudy missed out on the trip abroad she had planned. How come?

Did she get stuck in the garage? Did anyone else?

Relevant where Trudy had been planning to go? Where she currently lives? Was she planning to travel for pleasure? Business? To escape something? Was she going to be travelling with anyone?

Is it relevant where she lives in the sense of the type of building? The town? State/Province etc? Country? Whether she lives in a rural or urban area? Something else about where she lives?

Relevant what mode of transport she was planning to use?

Did she miss out because she could no longer afford it? She had to do something else at the same time? She didn't get to the airport (or wherever her trip started) on time? She wasn't allowed to go? She was too scared to go? Going would have had some negative consequence for her so she chose not to?

by 'attached' do you mean a garage that can be accessed from the house without going outside? if so, is this relevant? is it just a garage that is physically attached to the house?
if the garage had been inaccessible directly from the house would she still have missed the trip?
had she committed a crime? been the victim of a crime? witnessed a crime?

relevant what she kept in the garage? a car?

are any of these relevant: her age? her physical appearance? her job? her education? her family? her romantic relationships? her hobbies? her pets? her religion? her politics?

was she prevented from taking the trip by another person? was she in any physical danger?

Should we try to find out what exactly was in the garage? Or is it enough to know that it was evidence for a crime?

Were the police looking for the object when they looked in her garage? Looking for something else? Did they already suspect Trudy when they looked?

Had the real criminal hidden the object in Trudy's garage? If so, to frame Trudy? Just to avoid being suspected themselves?

If Trudy's garage was right next to her house but not actually attached, would this puzzle still be possible? Is there a single wall separating the garage from the house? Relevant that houses with garages are (I assume) more expensive/desirable than houses without? Had Trudy done anything with her garage? Such as converted it into living space?

Did the real criminal know Trudy? Did they have some particular reason why they wanted to framer her rather than somebody else? Did they live in her house?

If Trudy had a non-attached garage, would the puzzle not work because:
The crime would never have been committed?
The criminal would not have hidden the evidence in the garage?
The evidence would not have been found?
Trudy would have found the evidence before the police did?
The evidence would not have pointed to Trudy's guilt?

Were there some signs that something had been put in Trudy's garage that led the police there? Was the crime committed near her house?

Did Trudy invite the police into her garage? Did they look in it because they had reason to suspect there was something hidden there?

Does the garage have any relevant property other than being attached to the house?

Is it relevant how the criminal got into the garage to hide the evidence? Relevant how the police got in? Relevant where in the garage the evidence was hidden? How it was hidden (eg under something, buried, inside something etc).

Relevant how long the evidence had been in the garage before it was found?

So it's relevant how the police got in, but not relevant what entrance they used? Is it relevant whether they were on foot or in a vehicle? Whether they had a key? Whether the door they used was locked? Whether someone let them in? Whether they had a search warrant?

Is there some relevant legal distinction between an attached garage and a non-attached one? Something like an attached garage counts as part of the house but a separate one does not?

****** SPOILER **********

Because the police searched her garage & found evidence (falsely)implicating Trudy in a crime, she missed out on her planned trip abroad because she had to go to her trial (or to prison, if she got convicted). Because her garage was attached to her house, the search warrant for the house applied to it (according to -- surprise!! -- "Law & Order.") Please check out my second new puzzle today, thanks to Enjay's lateral skills!!
