The drinker's wish came true, but in a way that was the opposite of what was wishing for. How come?

Is the drinker a HAM? HAF? relevant?
Is the drinker's occupation relevant?
Actually drinking? or "a drinker," as in one who imbibes habitually, whether drinking in this scenario or not?
If drinking [in this scenario]: water? fruit juice? other non-alcoholic beverage? Alcohol? If so, beer? wine? liquor? other? relevant at all?
other people involved?
location relevant?
time relevant? day/week/month/year/time of year?
Was the wish stated to others?
Was the drinker pleased by the "wish coming true," although it was not as intended/hoped for?
As a result of the wish coming true, was the drinker still a drinker? still alive?
I'm fishing in these waters: "I wish I didn't drink," and then the drinker dies in a drunken accident, and so no longer drinks, but also: no longer lives to enjoy sobriety...

Because a certain amount of time had passed since something? Because the wisher himself did something? Did something change about him? About his circumstances? Is his job relevant?

Did he wish that overdrinking would be viewed in the same light as overeating? did he wish that they would be viewed as equally harmful? or equally a matter of personal choice?

is the relevant change that overeating has become more socially unacceptable? that those who overeat are increasingly been seen as irresponsible? in the same way that overdrinking has been seen as irresponsible?

did he originally want for overdrinking to be treated like overeating because that did not used to be so socially unacceptable?

********** SPOILER ****************
Clever Hannah returns & triumphs again!! This puzzle actually applies to me, someone who dislikes both the taste of booze & the widespread stigmatization of people who drink more than is good for them. But I LOVE to pig out on sweets!! So I used to say that it would be good if drinking more than is good for you would be regarded as like eating more than is good for you. I though both should be seen as choices some people make rather than an indication that these people need "help" they do not want. But with the current war on fat people, a.k.a., "war on obesity" unhealthful eating & drinking are both regarded as indications that the indulger needs "help." Question: if people whose risky adventures occur in ice cream parlors have eating disorders, why don't people whose risky adventures occur on Mt. Everest have mountaineering disorders? And here's an even more important question: why not check out my new puzzle?
