speaker: HAM? relevant?
a farmer? someone visiting a farm? someone with minimal experience with farms?
is the title relevant? is the comment actually made at a farm? in farming country, but not at a farm?
actually trees? if so, fruit trees? ornamental? native?
if trees, are they in a form other than typical, or what one would usually expect?
functional, as in a hedgerow?

Are they something that is intended to mimic trees? like disguised radio towers? or is the resemblance to trees merely coincidental?

Do these objects, in fact, resemble trees to an extent that a typical person, on initially seeing them, could reasonably mistake them for trees? or is there something peculiar to the speaker (or his view of the objects) that makes the confusion possible?

do the trees continue to exist when it's not winter? if so, do they appear the same?
are they re-made or "re-installed" in winter?
is it possible for them to be stored? if so, are they?
per being involved in feeding animals: is the "feed" a liquid, solid, or gas?
of those states of matter, are any pertinent or relevant?
[I'll hope to have more questions later... I have no experience with "the mysterious big white containers of hay or straw left on fields;" farmers don't seem to use them in my part of the world...]

do the trees continue to exist when it's not winter? Noish. if so, do they appear the same? No.
are they re-made or "re-installed" in winter? Yes, remade.
is it possible for them to be stored? if so, are they? No to both.
per being involved in feeding animals: is the "feed" a liquid, solid, or gas? The feed is the hay and straw in the big white containers, which are round bales in white plastic wrap. So, solid.
of those states of matter, are any pertinent or relevant? Solid and liquid states of matter are most relevant.

Are the bales wrapped in plastic for silage?
Are the tree-like structures needed for storing the bales? for retrieving the fermented material? for transporting/moving the bales?

Are the bales wrapped in plastic for silage? Some are. Not that relevant.
Are the tree-like structures needed for storing the bales? for retrieving the fermented material? for transporting/moving the bales? This.

Hint: I looked for the trees yesterday, but as spring has come they can no longer be seen.

Do the tree-like structures move one bale at once? More? All the bales at once?
Are these structures moved after having taken the bales? If yes, moved by people? By machines?

Hint: they cannot be seen, because the snow has melted.

Were the "trees" traces in the snow left by the bales after they had been rolled off the field?

Were the "trees" traces in the snow left by the bales after they had been rolled off the field?
Close enough for a ***SPOILER***
Several farmers had left the plastic-coated bales of hay and straw out in the fields where they were dropped by the baler. As they went and collected them one by one during winter, their tractors made tracks in the snow. The way they went at it, following their old tracks until it was more efficient to branch out and go for the next bale, resulted in a tree-like pattern.
When the snow melted, the "trees" were no longer visible.
Thanks for playing!

I'll be back with more lateral puzzles in about two months.
