Did the CD in fact feature patriotic songs? Were the songs patriotic about Lorella's country? Is it relevant where she is from?

Was she offended because of the name of the CD? The titles of the songs? Content of the songs? Is the singer or singers relevant? Is it relevant how she got the CD?

Is Loretta from a country that has some dispute about territories, or about exactly what constitutes the country? For example if she was Scottish and pro-independence, and got a CD about how great the UK is?

Would some people appreciate the CD without being offended?

Is she from Europe? Asia? Africa? Oceania? North America? South America? Is she from more than one place?

Is she from the US? Canada? Is she something-American (like Italian-American, Irish-American etc)? Does she live in a different country to the one where she was born? To the one her parents or ancestors are from? Are her parents both from a different place?

Was she offended that someone thought she would like the CD? Was she offended because she thought the CD's patriotism ignored people like her?

Did the CD contain patriotic songs about the US? Songs by American singers?

Did Lorella consider the songs to be patriotic? Would she have been offended before she had even listened to the songs? Was there some error in the CD, or what Lorella perceived as an error?

Is the term 'American' relevant? Relevant that people use 'American' to refer to people from the US even though it could mean anyone from the continent?

Is the CD cover art relevant?

Were the songs about only part of the US? Were they about more than just the US?

Was the perceived error to do with language? Spelling? History? An image? Is the American flag relevant? Are any other countries that the US relevant?

Was there any other relevant text on the CD other than the words 'Patriotic Songs'? Any relevant image? Did she take offence because of one word? A phrase? A sentence? Was there a grammatical error? Was a word used with the wrong meaning? Was incorrect terminology used? Was a factual error made?

Were the songs also about a specific other country? Countries? Were they about patriotism in general rather than being proud of being from the US?

Does she think that a song can't be patriotic in itself, the person singing it is the patriotic one?

Was the title in English? Was all text on the CD in English?

Is the other relevant text part of the title? Does it appear on the front of the CD? The back? The spine? Inside the case? On the disc itself? Is it a description of the CD? A review? Information about the songs? About the singers? Do sales of the CD go towards something relevant?

I asked in my first post whether the content of the songs was relevant - I'd have said lyrics were content. Anyway...

Did the lyrics use the word 'patriotic'? Was there a grammar or other linguistic error in the lyrics? Did Lorella feel that the lyrics were such that the CD should not be described as patriotic? Did she think some of the lyrics were unpatriotic?

Is there one specific line that is relevant? One specific song? The lyrics in general? Did Lorella mishear or misunderstand any lyrics? Is the tune of any of the songs also relevant?

were they Confederate songs? yes

********** SPOILER ***************
I'm Lorella & I was offended by a CD tited "Patriotic Songs," half of which were Confederate songs!! What could be less patriotic than treason & sedition -- in defense of slavery?! Please check out my new puzzle.

Were you in the South when you found that CD? I go to school in NC, and the whole controversy in the South over the Confederate flag is that Southerners see it as a sign of Southern pride, while everyone else sees it as, well, what you saw it as.

By the way, were the other half of the songs Union songs? Perhaps it was a CD of Civil War songs, so the term "patriotic" could I guess apply. But I definitely see where you're coming from.

I'm with you Balin on that one. Although technically
I guess Nimue is right in the sense that of treason and sedition. The slavery bit though is kind of irrelevant IMO and I'm surprised that normally non-PC Nimue would bring that up ;-)

I think the answer is a resounding somewhat, but, like Sam Cooke, I don't know much about history.

It is, of course, very nice and decent of people nowadays to be anti-slavery, but it has not required any courage, moral or physical, to be anti-slavery for over 160 years!
