Pesky flies!

Still, life here would be different without them.

flies = those annoying little insects? (... this is the LTPF, it could be anything!)

here = Where you live?

Would life be different for everyone who lives "here"? Only for some people?

Would it be better? worse?

flies = those annoying little insects? annoying, and insects, but, to be clear, not the common housefly. (...this is the LTPF, it could be anything!)

here = Where you live? Yes, but not just where _I_ live.

Would life be different for everyone who lives "here"? yes, pretty much everyone.

would it be better? worse? Neither better nor worse, just a bit different.

*****************SPOILER*****************
John Adams wrote to his wife "The 2nd day of July, 1776, will be the most memorable in the history of America. I..believe it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the Great Anniversary Celebration." So why isn't it?

The Continental Congress actually voted on independence on that date. Then they took a recess and met on the 4th to do a final edit on the wording of the document. It was stifling hot and all the windows had to be opened. There was a stable nearby, and all the horseflies soon congregated in the hall. And horseflies bite! Someone moved to accept the document just as it stood; this was seconded and quickly passed.

That's why Independence Day is July 4, not July 2nd or August 2nd, when most of the delegates signed.

Summer pastime = it happened in the summertime, and in "past times," but my puzzle is also a little "past its time." Didn't make it too difficult for you clever solvers, tho!
