A man walks into the bank. After a short while he runs away, knowing that he lost considerable amount of money.

This is based on a joke so please e-mail early $poilers.

Ok, just to make sure...
bank = "an establishment for the custody, loan, exchange, or issue of money, for the extension of credit, and for facilitating the transmission of funds"?
or some other kind of bank? food bank? blood bank?

Does the man walk into the bank regularly?
Is the bank open when he walks in?
Other people relevant?

Does the man own shares in the bank?

Does the man see something in the bank that makes him realise he's lost money? Or see someone? Or hear something/someone?

Does he realise he is not in posession of something which he previously thought he was?

Does he run away because he's in a hurry? To get somewhere else? To get away from someone?

Is the person he sees in the bank someone he knows? A member of bank staff? A bank customer? A customer of his company?

Is the something in the bank something that was put there by the bank (eg bank notices, furniture, etc)? Or something put there by the 'someone'?

Can we call the man who enters and then runs from the bank Jeff?

Has Jeff committed or is going to commit a crime? Is it his intention to rob or defraud the bank? Is he wearing a mask when he enters?

Is he shocked to see the person he knows in the bank? Is the other person a man? Are they there in a professional capacity? Is it a cop or security guard?

Was Jeff intention to pretend that was someone else?

Aha, less a FA than a badly written question on my part! :-)

So aside from Jeff, there were two relevant people in this situation? One that he knew, and one that he did not?

And the one that he did not know was a member of bank staff?

Was the person he knew a relative? Wife?

And aside from the relevant people, there's also an object that Jeff saw, the helped lead him to his conclusion of having lost money? And this object belonged to the person he knew?

Did the man who lost the bet (or the man who won?) speak to the bank employee? And did the outcome of that conversation confirm that he'd lost his bet?
Did the two men merely see the bank employee, which confirmed the outcome of the bet?

Did Jeff make the bet with another man? Woman? Was that person also in the bank when Jeff visited it? And this person who he bet with is the third 'relevant person' in the puzzle?

If the bank had closed the day before, and a shoe shop had opened on the same site, and all the bank employees had been employed by the shoe shop instead, so that all the same people were in the shoe shop at the time of this puzzle... would Jeff still have walked in? If he had walked in, would he still have lost the bet? Would he still have realised he'd lost the bet? Would he still have run?

Had Jeff lost the bet before he walked into the bank?

Yes. If he had walked in, would he still have lost the bet? Possibly but less likely. Would he still have realised he'd lost the bet? If he had lost, then yes. Would he still have run? If he had lost, then yes.

It's not crucial to the joke that it is set in the bank, as long as some factors concerning the people involved remain the same.

Had Jeff lost the bet before he walked into the bank? No, but something happened before that much contributed to his losing the bet.

So, for clarity :-
A man and a woman (with whom he is not in a relationship, but has made a bet) walk into a bank - ok so far?
And some interaction happens between the woman and the bank teller (who is male, correct?) which determines the outcome of the bet - correct?
Is this interaction merely verbal?
A usual kind of bank-type transaction?
Or more physical than that? a Kiss? MORE?

In fact there are several versions of it. In some of them man and woman enter together, in others man enters and the woman is already in a bank.

Did the bet involve Jeff doing something inside the bank? To the man in he bank? Say something to him? Interact with him in some way?

And because of what the woman did, was Jeff unable to fulfill the criteria of the bet? Was he able to, but didn't want to?

Is a previous meeting between the man and the woman and what happened there important?

Did the bet involve Jeff doing something inside the bank? No. To the man in he bank? Not Jeff, no. Say something to him? Interact with him in some way? No. Jeff was not supposed to interact in any way with the man in the bank.

And because of what the woman did, was Jeff unable to fulfill the criteria of the bet? Was he able to, but didn't want to? No to both. Bet did not involve any action taken by Jeff, besides coming to a bank.

Is a previous meeting between the man and the woman and what happened there important? Yes.

Then, did the bet have to do with something the woman was supposed to do? And did what happened at the bank prove she had done it?

Or did the bet involve some already existing circumstance? To do with Jeff? Or the woman? The bank?

Was the man prepared for whatever the woman did to/with him? Was he surprised? Did he appreciate it? Or would he rather not have had her do that?

If Jezebel had done what she did to John in public, would this have been considered a little odd?

Could Jezebel's "MORE"-action be described as...
Sexual?
Aggressive?
Friendly?
Comforting?
Professional?
Neutral?

Did Jeff run out of the bank because of the lost best, or was there another reason as well? If so, was it out of fear? Anger? Despair?

Sexual but not Friendly??!

We know it was more than a kiss - Was it full sex?
Or somewhere in between (and is it relevant exactly what activity?)

Was it some sort of fake/simulated sex?

Would this have worked if Jezebel was a man? If John was a woman? If Jeff was a woman?

Just to be sure: If Jezebel had not done this to John, would Jeff have won the bet?

Before the incident at the bank, did Jeff feel pretty confident about winning the bet? Did he think the conditions for Jezebel winning were near impossible to achieve?

Ok - So it looks like Jezebel has John by the balls (literally)...
Is it correct to assume that the bet wasn't actually for her to do this to John?
Was the bet to somehow get some statement or information from John?
Or is there some wordplay involved about the wording of the bet?

Is it correct to assume that the bet wasn't actually for her to do this to John? No, quite contrarily. The bet Jezebel had with Jeff was exactly that she would touch John's testicles.
Was the bet to somehow get some statement or information from John? No.
Or is there some wordplay involved about the wording of the bet? No, it's not.

So when Jezebel emerged from the room, was it obvious to Jeff that she had won the bet? Was John visible at the time? In some discomfort?
Did Jeff exit hastily because he feared the same treatment?

Did Jeff exit hastily because he feared the same treatment? No. He was angry to realize that he lost much money on a bet he was sure he would win.

You know now all you need to know about the bet Jeff had with Jezebel. The puzzle has its other side, though.

Hey, I was well-paid to do that. And the producer's young daughters were in the front row for one performance, so they were about three meters from the action, and were appalled. I guess he hadn't read the script.

While waiting for further details on Yojimbo's on-stage lethal copulation....

{So Jezebel came to the bank to achieve touching John's testicles? Did she ask him to let him touch them? Did he ask her?

Did she pretend to be a doctor/nurse/other person of medical expertise, and claim she was going to check for some disease? Or did she give him the impression that she was going to do something sexual to him?

Was John a kind of man who would seem especially unlikely to let anyone do that kind of thing to him?

Well, under normal circumstances a bank employee would be unlikely to accept an offer from a stranger to hold his testicles...
Did John previously know Jezebel?
Did Jezebel actually explain that there was a bet? & that touching his testicles would win the bet?
Did she trick John into allowing this?
Or force John against his will?

John was chosen randomly (any wealthy man with considerable social position would do), but what happened during the meeting was crucial to the fact that he was the "victim".

Did Jezebel actually explain to John that she wanted to hold his testicles? Yesish, and he agreed that her request was reasonable.

It's a very dim lightbulb...
Something like, the bet with Jeff was "I bet you 1000 I can have the Bank Manager (or whoever)'s balls in my hand today".
Having previously bet the Bank Manager 500 that he can't stay still for 30sec with her holding his balls? Or something like that..

****************SPOILER************
Jezebel bet Bank President John 50.000 that his testicles are square. She also requested to hold said testicles in her hand in the presence of a witness, what John found quite reasonable request, given large sum of the bet. Then Jezebel went to Jeff and bet him 100.000 that she would hold Bank President's testicles within 5 minutes from entering his office.

For elaborate version of the joke, you may see: http://www.jumbojoke.com/wanna_bet_1.html - that Balin sent me as an early spoiler.

Thanks for playing, especially Plebeian for sticking with it. Also congrats for Doriana, Balin and Yojimbo for correct early spoilers. And waiting for Peter to share the bar version of the joke.

Oh, it's pretty tame:
Private is being castigated by officer for excessive gambling. He admits that he will gamble on 'anything.'
"For instance, I will bet you $20 that you have a tattoo of (whatever)on your butt."
Officer: "Ha! This will teach you to gamble." And he drops trou to prove that he has no tattoo. The private forks over the $20.
Later, the officer is bragging about the incident to a fellow officer, who says:
"Great. He bet me $50 that he would get you to take off your pants before he had been in your office 10 minutes!"

An antiquated story, as you can tell from the $ amounts involved.

There's also a "man walks into a bar" version:
A bar patron bets the bartender $100 that he can piss into a glass set on the bar several feet away.
The bartender takes the bet and sets up the glass, while the patron unzips his trousers.
He proceeds to piss all over the bartender, who laughs at having easily won the bet.
As the patron hands over the money, the bartender asks why he made a bet he couldn't win.
"Oh, I bet my buddy over there $250 that I could piss all over you, and you'd laugh and smile."
As I already knew the bank-president's bollocks joke, I had to stand aside. Nice puzzle, and a fun one to follow.
