I found this on the internet and I think it might be a classic. However, I did a forum search and couldn't find it on here. In any case, e-mail me with early $poylers.

Leonard is found dead in his bedroom with a pair of scissors lying next to him. The scissors were the cause of death, but he was not stabbed with them.

Oh goody, I love these.

Going by the titles, is Leonard a H/A/M? Are there any personal details about Leonard we should find out? Are there any other relevant individuals?

Was his death a murder? Suicide? Accident? Illness? Natural causes?

Did he cut his goolies off, and die from shock?

Did he cut off some other appendage and die from bleeding?

Did he cut the top off a packet of arsenic gas, ignoring the "Danger!" sign on the outside?

Did he use the scissors to cut his favourite football team's logo into his hairstyle, and his wife took one look at him and stabbed him to death with a kitchen knife?

Ok, erm, let's be sensible...

Do the scissors have any blood on them?

If the police were to fingerprint the scissors expertly, would they find Leonard's fingerprints on them?

Would the coroner have said that the scissors were the cause of death? Or were the scissors an indirect cause, and the official cause would have been something else?

Did the scissors cut/stab something that caused a vital air supply to be cut off?

If the scissors had not been present:
- would the murderer have been unable to attempt the suffocation?
- or would he have been able to attempt the suffocation, but Leonard would have been able to prevent him succeeding?

After item being cut/stabbed, was Leonard able to breathe normally? Was there enough fresh air for him to breathe?
Was there a relevant item in Leonard's mouth/throat that led to his suffocation?
Is Leonard's bedroom an ordinary, normal-sized bedroom in an ordinary, normal-sized house?
Did breathing air in Leonard's bedroom come through doors and windows? Was there a relevant ventilation system?

Wait, I got an idea, email to follow.

I support your idea that it might be a classic. Certainly it appears in "Black stories". But it makes a good puzzle. Even having heard it before I needed a while to make a connection.

Were the scissors used to cut something open? Was something let out into the room as a result, that was previous sealed inside something else?

Could the murderer have used a knife instead of scissors?

Did Leonard fight back against his murderer? Did he realise he was being killed?
