The Hadfield family sat down to watch an episode of CSI on the TV. Except for Margo, who stood the whole time. Why didn't she sit down?

Is Margo part of Hadfield family? Is Margo H? A? F?
Was Margo physically capable to sit down? Did Margo watch CSI with the Hadfield family?
If they had watched news, would Margo also have stood the whole time?

Was she on TV in the show? Was she allergic to the couch? Would this have worked if they watched Law & Order? A baseball game?

Causes of standing: seeing the tv better? Or at all? Hearing it? Was she standing outside, looking in? Looking through a window? Would it be difficult to sit? Painful? Cramped? Impossible? Uncomfortable? Unpleasant? Impolite? Distracting: to her? To other(s)?

My 'This carriage is not for Reading' sense is tingling...

Was Margo quite young? Did she misunderstand something? Something said by the characters on CSI?

Is Margo protesting something?

Does she have any relevant feelings towards her family members?
Is her position within the family relevant?
Is anyone other than the Hadfield family watching TV?

Are they in their own home, in their living room/den/theatre room?
Is she in the room with them?

Does her standing relate to another project or scheme she is working on?
If the family sat down to eat dinner together, would she stand throughout that, too?

Did she stand on a block of ice, which since melted?

Is her standing a temporary thing or has she been doing this for a long time? Any health considerations? She's not being disciplined I hope? Is she trying to beat a record? Or maybe it's a forfeit?

Redwine:

Did Margo even sit in that house? No, she was standing. Or do you mean 'ever sit'? In which case the answer is very rarely.

Does Margo have any relevant medical condition which her family members do not have? Yes

Do Hadfields have any relevant medical condition which Margo do not have? No

Is Margo's height particularly different than height of rest of Hadfields? No

Any midgets in this puzzle? No

I'd steer clear of the word 'midget' for describing people with dwarfism - it originates from the word 'midge', ie a pesky irritating thing that buzzes around and you want to swat - and for that reason (or perhaps because it was used for those in freak shows, or perhaps because it's just not a proper medical term), is often considered an offensive term by people who prefer to be called dwarves or little people. Or so I learnt from watching The Last Leg on Channel 4, and got confirmed just now by wikipedia :-)

Peter365:

Is her standing a temporary thing or has she been doing this for a long time? She's been doing it for months.

Any health considerations? Yes

She's not being disciplined I hope? No

Is she trying to beat a record? No

Or maybe it's a forfeit? No

Had she read something about standing being good for you? Perhaps misinterpreted it?

Is she working? Their living room is the local pub and she's serving other customers? (in a country where 18 is the legal age for serving/consuming alcohol)

Is their living room the local Post Office? And she's working behind the counter? (I saw a Post Office like that in Derbyshire - and it hadn't been updated since the 1920s or so)

Is it relevant why was she underweight? Was it a result of an illness? Was she anorectic?
Did she choose to stand? Did she have to stand? Was her family happy with the fact that she was standing? Would they prefer that she sit down in that situation, all conditions the same?

Redwine:

***************Spoiler***************

Margo was severely anorexic. In her tireless mission to lose what little weight she still had, she almost never sat down. Aware that standing burns more calories than sitting, and holding the belief that she was still 'too fat' herself, she wouldn't sit down because she knew it would make her fatter.

(Not a true story in as much as Margo is a fictional person, but a true story in that psywomann has come across this sort of situation a number of times in her job as a clinical psychologist)
