This is a repeat so please email spiolers if you recognise this reworded puzzle.

Ted and Sally met Ben in the street. After they both greeted him, Ben said 'Did you enjoy your trip then?'. Ted is surprised because he hadn't said a word about it.

How did Ben know?

Because Sally had mentioned it?
Because they were suntanned?
Because one of them was wearing an "I've been to the Maldives" T-Shirt?
Because he'd walked past their house recently and seen that they weren't in?
Because he'd learned of their trip from a mutual friend?
Because he saw them packing/unpacking their suitcases/car?
Because he saw them on a TV documentary about the airport from which they flew?
Because he saw them in the background of some TV news report from the place they'd gone?
Because they always go away at this time of year?
Because he'd sent Ben a postcard, rather than 'saying' a word about it?
Because he'd said many words, rather than just 'a' word about it?
Because Ben met them during their holiday, and was asking about the trip out to that destination which clearly they'd taken otherwise they'd still be at home?
Because he wasn't talking to Ted, only to Sally, who had been on a trip herself without Ted?
Because Ben noticed a petal of a so-and-so flower attached to the leg of Ted's jeans and being a TV-crime-detective sort of person, managed to work out in double-quick time that it was native only to a foreign country and that Ted must therefore have been abroad to have picked it up?
Because they'd just met after getting out of a car, and Ben was just asking about the car trip?
Because they had a heap of milkbottles lying outside their front door?
Because Ben was their postman and had been unable to deliver parcels to their house for the last week because they were never in?
Because Ben had been on the same trip?
He didn't - he just guessed?

Or..
Because he could see that their pupils were dilated and they were on a downer and presumably had been tripping after taking some sort of illegal drugs?

Did he mean "trip" like in "journey"? Did Ben mean to ask Ted? Or Sally? Or somebody else entirely? Did he mean it as a straightforward question about their trip? Or was it ironic/sarcastic?

Had Ted actually been on a trip? With Sally? Or alone? Or with somebody else? Had Sally been on a trip? Had Ben?

Relevant where the trip went?
Relevant what relations they all have to each other?
Professions relevant?

Relevant how long the trip was?

Had Sally and Ted been on their trips at the same time?

Was there something about Ted's appearance that made Ben realise he had been on a trip? Or something about what he said or the way he spoke? Did he already know before he met Ted and Sally? Would he still have asked if he had met only Ted, and not Sally?

Was there a difference between Sally and Ted that made Ben realise? Something about the way they spoke/acted together? Was it something Sally said? Or did? Something about her appearance? Or something she was holding/carried with her?

Was Ben's clue for knowing about the trip visual?

Was Sally actually wearing perfume? Or did she smell of it for some other reason? Somebody spilled it on her? She made out with someone who was wearing it? Or similar?

If she was wearing it, had she put it on herself? If so, a few minutes before meeting Ben? An hour? Several hours?

I think there is sufficient information to declare a spoiler - the rest is just boring.

*************** SPOILER *****************

Ted always put his dog Sally into kennels when he goes on a trip. They brush her and always put scented powder on her. Whether it's to make brushing her easier, or to cover up the smell of accidents in her kennel, I've never been quite sure. But there is a distinctive smell to her whenever she's been to kennels.

Ted greeted Ben with a handshake. Sally jumped up at him which was her usual greeting. Ben could smell the distinctive 'kennel' smell, and knew that Ted must have been away on a trip.
