True story. I once thought that someone had done something, albeit accidentally. He denied it and the actual thing that actually happened was something neither of us would have thought of.

What happened?

Is the location of your interaction relevant? Did you know the man personally?

Was the result of what happened something postive? Money involved? Christmas (this is going to be my opening gambit in all puzzles for the next few weeks)? Was the man serving you at the time?

Did you call him out because your house was being extended, or new electrical wiring needed to be installed to accommodate new appliances or renovations?

Did you believe he had left somnething behind? That he had left it behind in the work he had done (in much the same way a surgeon may leave a scalpel in a patient, or a builder a trowel in the middle of a wall?)

Did you think things were not wired correctly? Or that something had not been properly connected? Was it later revealed that something had gotten into the walls and severed/blocked the connection, and was possibly still there?

Did you call him out because your house was being extended, or new electrical wiring needed to be installed to accommodate new appliances or renovations? We called him out to do some work, but seeing as I can't remember myself exactly what it was, the actual work isn't too relevant

Did you believe he had left somnething behind? no That he had left it behind in the work he had done (in much the same way a surgeon may leave a scalpel in a patient, or a builder a trowel in the middle of a wall?) no

Did you think things were not wired correctly? no, it wasn't anything directly to do with his work Or that something had not been properly connected? ditto Was it later revealed that something had gotten into the walls and severed/blocked the connection, and was possibly still there? no

To save this from being a guessing game, I thought that he had dropped something onto the top of our radio clock as it was all bent. He hadn't, and a day or so later I realised what had happened. Early spiolers welcome.

Had someone been turning it off a little too enthusiastically?

Had your clock radio actually suffered a large, sudden impact? If so, did something fall on it? Did something strike it? Did it fall off the dresser and land on its head?

Was the radio, in fact, bent? Did it straighten itself out somehow in the days to come?

Had something gradually bent the clock? Something you hadn't noticed? Is your situation similar to mine in that there is usually a hefty tower of bedtime reading material sitting on the clock that is cleared only very occasionally?

Was the radio bent through the weight or mass of something on it? Was this something that was permanently on it, or did it get on and off the clock routinely? Was it a kitteh?

Was it somehow warped or eroded due to a force other than mass? Is sunlight relevant? Water? Poltergeists?

Heat? Was it too proximate to a heater? Was there a fire? Was there a concentrated beam of light and/or heat due to a magnifying glass or mirror or some kind of convex lens/reflective surface?

I hate being in this position. I get so close to the answer, then make a spectacle of myself dancing around the solution for 20 posts.

I thought I was too subtle, but, on reflection, I think I'm actually wrong.

If not a pair of glasses, was it the desk lamp?

If not a pair of glasses, was it the desk lamp? YES, and very subtle!

************** SPOILER ***************

A couple of days after finding the clock bent on top, I realised that the desk lamp was angled directly over the clock. Being the old type of bulb which was very hot, after an hour or so it was not surprising that it melted the thick plastic top

Thanks for sticking with it!
