Some time ago, I received an e-mail in our office mail. Someone was asking about our fees and we get such inquiries several times a week. But we found this particular e-mail extraordinarily funny. Why?

That's just a silly one, until I can make something better. But I assure you that it's a true story. And no knowledge about my work is needed.

Was the e-mail written in Polish? By a native speaker? (Mis)translations relevant? Spelling mistakes relevant?

Was the person mistaken about the kind of services you offer?

Was the writing style noticeably different from other e-mails you receive? Was the sender trying to be funny?

Is the sender's name relevant? e-mail address?

Were there any relevant attached documents?

Was the sender's name funny? Was the e-mail address funny? Was it some automatically generated e-mail address that unintentionally spelt out a real word?

Does the sender share a name with anyone you know? with someone in your office? with a celebrity?

Was the e-mail sent to your e-mail address? To a more general address (such as info@company.com)? Relevant?

Was the e-mail address funny in combination with some other part of the e-mail? If so, in combination with the recipient's e-mail address? with the date or time it was sent? with the subject line? with the content of the e-mail?

Was it funny in combination with the way he addressed the recipient? In combination with the complimentary close he used at the end of the e-mail?

Is the sender's whole name relevant? first name? last name?

I assumed that the sender is H/A/M. Is that correct? relevant?

Does the sender's name mean anything? If so, was the name's meaning contradictory to the word he used? (e.g. his name means "stingy" and he used the word "generous")

Doriana:
Is the sender's whole name relevant? Yes. But you don't need to know what exactly it was. first name? last name?

I assumed that the sender is H/A/M. Is that correct? Yes. relevant? No.

Does the sender's name mean anything? No. If so, was the name's meaning contradictory to the word he used? This is very much OTRT. (e.g. his name means "stingy" and he used the word "generous") But nothing similar to this example.

Was the sender's e-mail address funny in connection with his name? Was his name part of the e-mail address?
Are other parts of the e-mail relevant? The recipient's e-mail address? the subject line? the date/time when it was sent? the signature?
Did it contain an attachment?

Did the signature contain...
a greeting?
his name?
his company's name?
his e-mail address?
his postal address?
his phone number?
his fax number?
some sort of disclaimer?
something like "Think of the environment before printing!"
something else?

Did it contain something that tells you the content of this e-mail is confidential? something that tells you do delete the e-mail if you're not the intended recipient?
Did it contain a picture of his actual, handwritten signature?

***********SPOILER**************
We received an e-mail from the person, who has never been our customer before. He was asking about fees and taxes. He signed his message only "Client", what made an impression that he wanted to remain anonymous. However, he gave away his real name by sending the email from namesurname(at)domain.pl address.

Thanks for playing :-)
